BASC double page spread in the Labour edition of the House Magazine. The mag is the in-house publication for Parliament and read by MPs, ministers and civil servants. Today, thousands of copies have also been distributed at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool. The article in the magazine explains how the latest Value of Shooting report will help policymakers understand the environmental, economic and social benefits shooting provides across the UK.

Further update:

Minister Daniel Zeichner told a packed Rural Reception at the Labour Party conference that his party’s MPs must repay the faith shown in them at the general election.

The Rural Affairs Minister, speaking to a full house at the joint BASC and Angling Trust event in Liverpool, said:

“I can see many rural MPs in the room and I must say to them that we need to show rural England that Labour is not the problem. Labour is a good solution for rural England.

“We have a huge responsibility in the years ahead. I can guarantee that this government will continue with a commitment to a nature-friendly, environment-friendly countryside.”

Mr Zeichner, a regular guest and speaker at the Game Fair each year, added:

“I always enjoy going to events like the Game Fair to meet the people who live and work in our countryside. I expect I will continue to receive grillings at these events.

“I’ve met BASC often over recent years and I am really appreciative of the advice they have given to Labour.

“It’s a really important role that your organisation and your members will play in the future of the countryside in the years ahead. I readily endorse this co-working.”

BASC chief executive Ian Bell said:

“I would like to thank the Minister and his team for his positive words about BASC and the wider shooting sector.

“We are delighted that BASC and sustainable shooting are recognised as having a positive role to contribute to Labour’s countryside agenda. A vast number of our members live in Labour constituencies and we look forward to continuing to build a fruitful relationship with this government."
