Everhopefull
When ever some one asks other shooters on a forum, what shotgun to buy, the answer is don't jump and buy the first one you like, but try various one's out for size etc. How can you do this? Unless you know some one that has a shotgun, the same as you want to buy, and you can perhaps try that one in the field, you are stuck with trying it for size in the shop for 5 minutes or so, then spending a lot of money and hoping that you still like it as much when you use it in the field! Or do any shooters out there have a friendly gun shop that some how allows you to actually try it out for real? It sure would be a help if you could! R and K Stockcraft and Donaldsons both in Milton keynes will allow you to try before you buy. Second hand guns only I think, but they might have demo guns for the newer ranges available. It helps if they know you, but if not they will arrange for you to meet them at a local shoot and try it out. Tony
Oly
Most I know allow you to try secondhand ones...either at their shoot, or at a local clay ground. Just go and ask...they'll know if your being serious and most are willing to help (and secure a sale!)...if not the worst they can say is no. Everhopefull
Thanks chaps, I'll have to ask at my local gunsmith, Litts. Not sure what their reaction would be, but as you say, nothing ventured - - - - - -
Windknot
Newavon Arms in Bristol will let you try before you buy- Dennis will bring a gun (or two) to the Woodspring Bay shoot for you to try. Ditto for West Country Guns in Wiveliscombe. But that's a bit of a trek from Newport. And Mendip Shooting Ground have a gunshop and shooting range- convenient!
