ziplex
Long story short, my Vectra is having a new box put in under warranty.... suprise, suprise I recieved a call saying the engineer noticed wear on the flywheel and that the clutch is worn, (fairly obvious as the car has done 56/58000 miles), then after 'strongly advising' that I have it done was then 'advised' the cost would be £700 for parts, no labour as box is already laying on the workshop floor. After about a second or two to decide what to do I 'advised' the girl to go tell her engineer to fire the box, less said clutch and flywheel back in as soon as possible. The clutch hasn't slipped once in all that time, and last time I checked I didn't have **** scrawled across my forehead. I know that these parts can be bought at a more sensible price and my brother in law can be persuaded to fit but I don't seem to be able to find a price online....any ideas?? One other question, how long does it take to remove a box and replace? 2 1/2 days seem right?

No clutch should need changing on that mileage but I would change it as a matter of course if a new gearbox was being installed along with cable or hydraulics. LB, A new clutch won't be fitted for the time being, can see your reasoning but I don't think they'd take too kindly if I turned up with a carrier bag full of non Vauxhall car parts, for them to fit! Interestingly my bro' in law guessed at half a day if all went well, funny how it has been with them two days already and won't be ready until midday tomorrow....i'm all for making money but that seemed unreasonable........advice appreciated. LB I can do the job in 3.5 hours but then again I like to keep my customers happy whereas main dealers don't give a 4xxx. I Look after a fleet of 20 Fiats for a taxi firm and all are under 3 y/o. When the clutch goes on any one of them he supplies them with a solid flywheel (aftermarket) to substitute the inadequete dual mass ones that are currently in vogue with manufacterurs. They fit them without question, obviously has some financial clout buying a new one every month, but would probably tell the likes of me and you to go take a running jump. Hope your motor is ready on time tomorrow mate LB
ziplex
So do I LB, I have the somewhat dubious pleasure of driving around in a Vauxhall Agila and am getting tired of the postman pat jokes.........the youngster rep in work today begged me to go and sit in it so he could take a pic' with his phone.....needless to say he was told to go away. I have a longish drive tomorrow and I am not looking forward to it, not looking forward at all to going to Aggregate Industries where I am expecting hell

Drive it into a brick wall or other surface where you have no chance of injuring anyone else and brace yourself for the impact. When the dust settles loosen a brake hose connection and pump the brake pedal until there is no resistance and then get one of them 'win or no fee' lawyers (mungler might be able to help you with that if you ask nicely) and sue the **** out of your main dealer for giving you a vehicle that wasn't in a road worthy condition. I think you will find that they will settle up before any court date has been set and will more than suffice in offsetting your clutch costs, IMHO. LB LB Some advice given on here i'd argue with, sometimes it's laughable the ideas others will come up with, but every now and then someone chips in with a golden nugget and this is one of those times...usually if any frost lingers down this neck it's around Cirencester which is where i'm off to......just need to find my cap, bag and cat and i'll be away.
