Codlord Posted yesterday at 11:38 Report Share Posted yesterday at 11:38 I wanted some sort of dummy 12g cartridges to be able to cycle the loading/ejecting mechanisms on a semi-auto during/after cleaning/oiling etc. Also I wanted something to use when I was looking at second-hand guns to be able to check all the mechanisms. I bought two pairs of the Lyman A-Zoom alloy snap caps from Bullseye Country Sport (just over £12 per pair plus postage). I could have probably made my own from used cartridges but I am a lazy ***. They are weighted just like real cartridges and load / eject perfectly. And being alloy should last a lifetime. I also bought a GMK / Benelli safety breech clip which my local clay ground requires. Not much to say, it's a £5 plastic clip that you squeeze and push into the open breech to show it's safe.
BobbyH
I have those snap caps for the same purpose. the only criticism I have is that the edges get burred over quite quickly sadly
Pukka Bundook
I have some A-Zoom snap caps as well, but the "primers" have holed pretty badly with very little use. I dont think they will cushion the strike of the firing pins much now. I only used them to let down the hammers on boxlock and sidelock guns. I normally dismount the barrels now, and snap the locks against a piece of horn, then reassemble. I know. Some dont bother but reckon its best on guns that are very old! Best, R. Ps, just got another breed of snap caps in 16 bore that seem to be holding up well, but cant remember the name off hand!
