I shot my first Hare today and i decided to keep it's tail. I'm just wondering how do i preserve it?

I've tried a search and found nothing on here or Google.

Thanks guys!

I have done this with squirrel tails and it seemed to work ok.

Dampen the end that has been cut by dipping it in water then dip it in some normal salt.

I left mine for a couple of days and brushed all the excess salt off.

It dries it out and seems to preserve the cut end.

Thanks Tony,

I was thinking about using salt but wasn't sure if there were any tricks to stop the hair from falling out over time.

I'll give that a try!

Mine has been done for about 3 years now and is still full of hair.

There have to be other ways of doing it but this is so far the only way I know.

A K A has done the same, I wonder if his fur is still intact?

using alum from which you can get from any chemists works well, also helps preserve the fur

I've been trying for months to find an alum supplier.

I bought some from a chemist many many years ago, but Pompey and Hedge End can't get it.

Two chemists have tried ordering specially and nothing arrives

If anyone can get alum can you PM me from where?

Cheers
