AndyCM
I recently got a Phoenix - bought it with a CZ American (but heavy barrel ? - I thought that was the Varmint model ?) in .17 HMR. The difference with the mod on or off is quite amazing - both me and my buddy were impressed. Surprising the CZ .17's were only available screw cut from the factory very recently. I would not want to use one unmoderated - even then there is a fair blast. I bought the Phoenix mainly because that was in the shop at the time of the rifle purchase and the choices were a Phoenix at £35 or a £180 odd moderator. I went for the cheaper option and am glad I did. Nice and light / can be field stripped - simple design. I have also tried it on my .22lr - does a good job on that too with subsonics (and has now replaced the Parker Hale mod that I did have for the .22LR). I'd buy another - good value for money. It does add about 7 inches to the rifle (as it does not go back over the barrel like more expensive mods) but is light so does not upset the balance of the rifle. I have not tried it on an air rifle so can't comment on its effectiveness there. It has a carbon fibre weaved finish - which looks nice and shiny in the shop but not too useful if you want to take it hunting - but a neoprene cover (or tape) will sort that. AndyCM
Mmmmmm, looks like I was a bit too enthusiastic about the moderator. It performed faultlessly.........for 60 shots........then fell to bits !! Going back to the gun shop - to be replaced with a Jet Z - hopefully that will last & be up to the job. Maybe the Phantom is ok on an airgun (that's how it is packaged) - just can't take the rimfire punishment. Andy CM
