Simon Clarke
BASC brings national shooting competition to Cheshire 28th July 2004……………………………………………..immediate release. For the first time, young shotgun enthusiasts will be able to enter a national clay pigeon shooting competition at this year’s Cheshire Game and Angling Fair at Peover, near Knutsford, on Sunday 15th August. The fair will hold a heat for a national competition run by the UK’s biggest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC). The ultimate prize is a new £650 Macnab Lowlander shotgun and a place on a day’s driven shooting provided by Holland and Holland. BASC spokesman Simon Clarke said “We are pleased that yet again we able to increase our presence and support for the Cheshire Game & Angling Fair at Peover. This is one of the country’s leading one-day countryside events, attracting visitors from many miles away. The fair always has a great atmosphere and is fantastic value for a family day out. The organisers also put a significant amount of time and money back into the local community. Money raised at the fair is always used to support good causes in the area.” BASC will be offering shotgun lessons for everyone from novices to experienced shots through its team of qualified coaches. There will also be a chance for people to learn more about the BASC Green Shoots programme in Cheshire, where shooting interests and wildlife experts have combined to produce a conservation project which has been hailed as an example of best practice by the government’s environment and countryside ministry DEFRA and is supported by English Nature. Simon Clarke said “We are delighted by the progress we have been making with the Cheshire Green Shoots programme. BASC members who shoot in the county have engaged with the county’s biodiversity action plan, designed to assist threatened habitats and species. The land access, expertise and sheer hard work provided by our members has dovetailed perfectly with the aims of other groups committed to increasing the range and quality of plant and animal species in the county. We look forward to discussing our work at the Game and Angling Fair”. The Cheshire Game and Angling Fair will be held at Peover Park near Knutsford on Sunday 15th August. There is easy access from the M6 and A50. ENDS. NOTE You are invited to send a reporter/photographer.
