Dave.M
My best friend has a strange habit that I cant work out. My 9 month old lab has sent me completely bald with his strange habit and I have no idea what to do next. He is steady he is realy switched on and has no fear at all but he will not pick up or carry a plain canvas dummy. If you wrap it in rabbit skin or feathers he has no problem but just a plain dummy and he is very reluctant to pick it up. I have tryed mixing a canvas in when playing/training but even when I have got him realy pumped up he will reject the canvas. please someone help I had a full head of hair (all be it 10 years ago) and would like to keep the little I have left. Any ideas?
millo2
My dog did that. I rubbed a pair of nylon tights on a dead pheasant, then cut off the bottom bit of the leg, then wrapped it round the dummy. He would pick this up, then i gradually changed it to tights that were new, then no tights at all. it worked for me
darren m
Dave -- my dog did and still does the exact same thing ( i,m also a baldie) solution -- i ,m not sure mate , but mixing the dummies seemed to cause the problem for me , he would choose the fur and feather dummies over the uncovered dummies almost every time ( more interesting etc ). so i uncomplicated things by having one retrieving session with fur and feather and one session with the canvas dummies ... the only other thing i can think of is to buy some sent ie pheasant , rabbit etc for the canvas dummies...
