First you need to decide what you want your FAC for as you have to have a good reason for having one unlike a SGC

You do not have to have land but if you are hoping to go vermin shooting then they would expect you to have at least one permission

If you are going deer stalking they will usually accept a letter of receipt for days stalking bought but a lot of forces are now pushing for either DSC1 or mentors before allowing stalking rifles but this is actually illegal

If you only want to go target shooting then that is fine but you will have restrictions on your ticket limiting you to official ranges, you may if lucky get land cleared by the chief constable with land owners permission allowed on your ticket as well

best thing is to decide which way you want to go, phone your local firearms section and speak to an FLO, and if not already a member, join an organisation like BASC or NGO for their backup and tech help.

I must reiterate that you do need a direction, just to say to an FLO that i quite fancy having an FAC is not a good enough reason I'm afraid

Then i would say that you may need to get a permission before they may consider you speak to your FLO and see what he has to say and if its reasonable and something you can achieve then go for it if it sounds unreasonable get advice as stated before,

here are no doubt others on this site that can let you know how you stand legally if you do not have permission on a given piece of land as this would mean that you would possible have to be issued with an open ticket which i can not see happening on your first aplication without a very good argument for your case

best of luck

just get permission in writing for vermin and pest control and it should be quite easy, decide on what calibers and how many rifles you want and away you go

Suggest .22lr and mod for bunnies and lamping bunnies

.17hmr and mod for longer range bunnies and crows day time and possible close range foxs

and for foxing any of the following calibers and dont forget to apply for a moderator for every caliber that you apply for even if you dont get one straight away

.222

.223

22-250

25-06

.243

6.5 x 57

and the last three can also double up for the larger deer species as well but all should be easily gained for foxing

may be worth checking local gun shops for availability of bullet weights and calibers as this will be a deciding factor when buying a rifle

far better to have a .243 that you can easily get a range of bullets for locally at a reasonable price than getting say a 25-06 or a 6.5 x 57 that you have trouble getting consistant supplies of the same type of ammo

and if your not interested in deer then stick with the .22 centerfires of the first three on the list whose ammo is cheeper anyhow

the only other thing to consider althought it technically isn't required and that is the possibility of getting the land cleared for the calibers that you wish to purchase

hope this helps
