sternyboy
I have been asked to shoot some rats on a farm and was just wondering if anyone knows the best times to go? I have 2 working terriers but these rats are in Partridge and Pheasant pens so need shooting really to prevent the dogs getting the birds. They shouldn't harm the birds but accidents do happen and I don't want to lose this shoot.
Macperc
I shoot many rats on a poulty farm. The rats are always active but your best bet by far is dusk/night with a low powered lamp and air rifle. Just put out some bait and let the rats come to you. Night is also better as the birds will be roosting but you obviously still need to be careful with your backstops. Cheers,
cleaner4hire
dusk/night was my most productive period. That said if you can go at different times of the day for a few times it help identify when they were most active. Cat food (fishy) is good for attracting them to where you need them to be. Filtered lamp and .22 air rifle makes for some entertaining pest control.
luckytrigger
I shoot at night its by far the most productive time and alternate between shooting from a static position( lit by a floodlight) riddled with rat holes and rat runs and lamping on foot with the airrifle. Great fun
