clayman
You need to achieve a bond stronger than the wood, or the action recoiling back into the wood will continue to opem the wound. Its a bit messy to use, but one of the strongest wood glues around is Cascamite or Resinmite ( same thing differnt names ). Be sure to get it injected well down the crack, open it slightly with a wedge to get access to the wood inside, than clamp it hard and leave to set 48hrs before finishing and use.
