Ferretboy111
Well my Aracana cross chicks have been hatching the past few days, and have made an awful mess of the incubator. So far 11 of the 14 eggs have hatched and as you can see, others are starting to hatch. Twinkle has been bitted to make sure she/he doesnt kill any of the new chicks. Aracana chickens have fluffy cheeks, and these can be seen on some of them. All practice for when i get either, pheasant/partridge eggs. shotgun harry
Why have you got that chick bitted? Ive hatched chicks for the last 20 years and you definatly wont have any agression problems from a chick that big towards the others with domestic fowl. Its different for gamebirds they will get a bit pecky at times, not trying to tell you how to suck eggs (excuse the punn) but its not the best thing for the chick

Ferretboy111
In reply to why i have it bitted- Its because i have already lost 1 chick from being pecked to death by the other youngsters, im not risking it with twinkle- Ill just bit her until the others are alittle older. And id like to know why it isnt good for the bird?? Considering i, along with 1000's of gamekeepers bit their birds to stop them tearing each other apart. "Can get a bit pecky at times." They certainly can, more than abit. I shall be removing the bit within the next few days, it was a cautionary measure just in case it decided it wanted to, best to be safe than sorry--- Surely? Seeing as it causes no stress to the bird at all. I have 12 out of the 14 now, 13 hatched from the 14 but one died from bullying as it was a straggler. Will be setting another 40 odd eggs on friday.
