sunshinedave
Evening guys, Up on the farm I shoot (in Glos) they have just lost their first lamb to the fox, so something needs to be done about it. What I'm looking for really, is the opportunity to join someone in S Wales for an evenings lamping/calling foxes. Basically I'd like to see how you call them in etc, willing to hold the lamp, if my NV monocular comes before then, I'll bring that along too and of course a plentyful supply of Coca Cola If anyones interested please get in touch! sunshinedave
Sorry From Cardiff, yes I have FAC (currently got a CZ 452 in .17HMR). Although I live in Cardiff, my permission at the moment is soley the family farm in Gloucester (about 50mins drive away) - though I'll shortly be persuing a few leads down in the Vale of Glamorgan for shooting permissions. Hope that clears it all up
codling99
just trying to work out if you need some one to go lamping with you on your farm in glouster to get fox causing trouble,or you want to tag along lamping on someone elses farm to see how its done so to speak so you can tackle fox problem in glouster.i have a farm in cardiff that i go shooting on with shotgun, but farmer dont want foxes shot, but could sort something out maybe to go lamping there ,and try and call a fox but not shoot it.other option is go lamping on your permission with your rifle and i or some one else do the lamping and calling for you to shoot fox not over joyed at shooting fox with 17 hmr mind ,but if close enough it will do the job.what calibre is your farm cleared for ? sunshinedave
A member has PMd me and we should be arranging something, so thanks for that! Codling, I'm more interested in tagging along and seeing how its done so I then have the knowledge to sort the problem out now and in the future. With the HMR, yeah, lots of debate on that front, but like you say, the consensus is that for short-range, it's capable on foxes used propperly. I'm not entirely sure what its cleared for, certainly .22LR and .17HMR, I think there's one guy who used to shoot over the land a few years back with a .223 (weapon of choice in this scenario!), but I'd have to make a call or two to find out.
