Well today i was at a gundog training course for 4 hours with a professional trainer, there was about 18 odd dogs, all retreivers.

The way jazz's training was going i thought i was going to make some good progress. but as soon as she had her first retreive she went nuts.

She ran out and got the dummy then ran back with it, she retreived great untill she spat it out about 5 foot short and ran off about 50-60 yards.

With me calling and doing everything i could, to my dispair she refused completley to come back infront of 18 dogs

eventually 10 mins later she got bored and came strutting back to heel, followed by alot of praise, after that she couldnt follow the simplest of commands.

like heel and sit.I think this is because she was with a large group of dogs. It annoys me because i know she is better than every dog their, but only when she is on her own.Has any one got any tips, or ideas how i can get her used to large groups of dogs and only listen to me?

Also while im posting a new thread  , The head trainer knows how good she is on her own so she gave me a dummy that has hen phesant feathers on it.Im going to introduce her to it tomorow when she is getting walked (on her own  ) has any one got tips on how to do this?

Thanks for reading.

Welcome to the wonderful world of training dogs. If this is your first time being humiliated by a dog then you have a lot more to come. There is an old saying that "Pride comes before a fall." Never has that statement been truer, than with training dogs.

One day the dog is almost like a Field Trial Champion, next day they make you look as if you have not done a thing with the dog.

But that not only applies to you, It is across the board from professional trainers to the first dog amateur, I am willing to bet that more than half the people there thought exactly the same as you. “ My dog is better than his.†You will learn.
