blacta
Hi Does anyone know of the best places to fish for Mackrel in the Solent? What are the best conditions? salisburykeeper
Mackeral move around and shoals are never in the same place for more than a minute. If you get out a few good casts you will start hitting them! Best conditions are sunny weather I find and out on the boat shore still a bit hit and miss until a bit later on

salisburykeeper
Better on the boat at the moment Off the shore you would be best fishing into deep water like off a peir or rocks from the beach will be very hit and miss
blacta
i mean how far off the beach because we have a small yacht?
Spaniel
Depends where you are fishing, Chesil you have to get some distance from the shore to catch them, I also go to Brixham Berry head, because you are in real deep water there, you dont need to cast that far. Im guessing approx 70 Yards or so, which is quite easy with a 4oz lead attached.
tomtom
Just head out until you find a tide line, this is will appear like an are of calm water a few meters wide and a couple of miles long. This is the meeting of two currents and it will mean a high level of food for various fish so they are often found on or close to them. Once you find one bung some feathers over and away you go...
