tinbum71
As I've got a new job starting on the morrow, I thought I'd make the most of the afternoon and walk the gun. I took my (still new) Phantom .410 and a bag of pigeon decoys to a permission I have nearby. This is a particular permission that I wanted a modded gun for as it is based around a retired lady's house. I saw her as I was setting up and had a brief chat. She asked me to pop back sometime with the 12g as she'd lost some chooks to Mr Fox. Anyway, the plan was to wait for the pigeons to land and pick them off. I'd set the deeks at 10-20yds from my hide and rolled a fag in preparation. Not more than 5 minutes had passed when charlie walked out of a hedge 100yds away and trotted toward Mrs L`s garden. I made a small squeak, he stopped and trotted happy as you like straight toward me. He found the deeks and had a bit of a sniff around. I just couldn't beleive it. Broad daylight, 15yds away and as bold as you like! He was side on, head down. I lined the sight on his chest, just behind the shoulder and BANG! 16g of no.5 were on their way from the Lyavale 3" magnum round. He went down and rolled, got up and ran about 25 yds before dropping as dead as a doornail. On close inspection, there was no blood to speak of, so the heart must have stopped immediately. I was impressed, Mrs L was impressed, the fox wasn't. Oh, and BTW, I didn't see a single pigeon all afternoon! Yes, I still love this gun.
