DIY insulator

As the title suggests, I'm fancying having a go at making a simple insulator for the mainspring on an underlever.

You know, the cylindrical thingy made of thin metal plate that slides inside the piston body & stops the cocking foot running along the mainspring (like the ones that come as part of the V-Match tuning kits).

Can anyone think what to make it out of & where to get the materials?

Before any bright spark suggests I just get a V-Match kit :-

a) they don't make 'em for this gun &

:good: I'm not wanting to fork out £lots any way

I'm tending towards cutting down an aerosol can, the inside surface should be smooth & corrosion resistant & it's probably about the right gauge of metal.

Suggestions please.

  • 3 weeks later...

I had to do this to an HW98 a while back, I used brass shim material bought from a model shop for a couple of quid.

I can't remember what guage I used but its cheap to buy a few different thicknesses, tin cans would score and ride up eventually unless there is no pressure but with a decent grease brass is a bearing material.

hope this helps
