gdunc
A Doe I shot last year had a lovely winter coat with a nice big gorget patch so I decided I'd have a go at tanning. I duly purchased the K-Tan kit and got set about it. Save for some over enthusiatic fleshing I did a pretty good job but managed to falter at the last hurdle. The hide is stiff - particularly around the perimeter where my over fleshing was most evident. The central area is a nice suede finish (though it is dry chamois stiff) but the extremities are really quite bad. I may have been guilty of not stretching enough when drying it out. I gave a liberal application of vaseline (misguided advice) which has done nothing other than make the hide greasy. Have I gone too far to recover it or is it possible to re-dip the skin and have another go at drying it out with more stretching and manipulation this time? Advice welcomed Dunc Edited October 30, 2008 by gdunc
