The Fox and I

I have been shooting for a while now, first got back into air rifles with my son and remember how good it was to go out shooting, so I have progressed onto 22lr and 17hmr and shotgun shooting.

22lr deadly quite but recoshays easy.

head shot bunny's at 50-60yrds goes straight through having to be extra careful making sure of good enough back stops...infact almost to the point that I only take the shot 30% of the time.being sure that the if it goes through the bunny there is something behind to stop the 40gr winchester going off into the field.

17hmr great rifle for 100yds plus shots almost too easy, first time out in the field daytime.

first bunny at 103 yrds not much left really.

went straight through the body bit of a mess...

keep going out with the 22lr getting used to its range and to be honest the 17 hmr is fantastic to shoot out to 155yrds to targets i have set out using 17gr remingtons that just break up on impact.

grouping getting better when rested.

the 22lr using winchester 40gr at 90yrds is still a chunk of lead.

The fox story

as the night are getting darker earlier I have been going out around 6.30-7pm for 8pm some say a little early for rabbits but i find them coming out at about 8 ish

the last couple of occasions, the first last week standing quietly by a big broken tree branch about 80yrds away out pops a fox

I called to her and she stopped and looked back and stood still.... the lamp shining off her eyes look great through th scope and then made her way through the trees and under growth...nice moment she stood for what seemed ages but I know it was just a matter of seconds.

The second was tonight same kinda time waiting for the rabbits to come out and flicked the lamp on and christ she must of been 25 feet away from me...dont know who scared who...and I am the one holding the gun.

Both great moments...but sadly my firearms cert does not include Fox! only vermin

I will have to wait until next year for a variation.

oh and one last thing,is it just me that keeps tripping over bunny`s being that good at being quite and moving slowly around the field or its it just plain old field craft....lol they say the more you do something the better you get right?

Sometimes think it would be easier to take the air rifle out instead of the rimfire.
