taz24
. I have the possibility of a job near London. I live in Yorkshire so the commute is out of the question. It may be a possibility that they will put me up in a flat. Question is!! Am I allowed to have two safes and transfer my gun with me, one to the other? I know there are some good clay grounds around the area I may be working in and I would like to be able to take advantage of the second location. What is the law on two gun safes? Cheers taz. . Big_Sam
Condition 4 of your certificate will state something along the lines of: "The holder must ensure that so far as is reasonably practicable, no unauthorised person will have access to the firearms which the holder is entitled to possess." So its your responsibility to keep the guns out of hands of unauthorised people. There is no law stating how you should do that. A gunsafe is the most obvious option, but is not required to hold a certificate. It is just one option. I know people who use other methods of securing firearms, and they are all perfectly legal. The general rule that seems to be round here is take the guns with you. They would rather you had them in a safe with you, than in an unoccupied house hundreds of miles away. You are entitled to travel and possess your shotguns anywhere in the United Kingdom. And if you ask your police force they will give you for free a European Firearms permit that allows you to travel around europe with them as well. Would my FEO need to be informed or would the police where the second cabinate was, need to be informed. Cheers taz. .
Big_Sam
As far as I know, you don't need to tell them if your primary address is up north and you are not moving permanently. The primary responsibility for the security of the shotguns lies with you, not the police. By signing your certificate you accept that responsibility. They are just required by law to keep a record of where the shotguns are most likely to be kept, usually your home address.
