Horrocks
Seriously starting to worry about the increase in prices. I've been told i'll be getting the FAC by my FAO within a couple of weeks, obviously they dont have the final decision on granting it but i was wondering if its worth sticking a deposit on a rifle now. I've just spoken to roding armoury and they've said it would be fine..... has anyone got any advice or a better idea, should i just sit it out?... Thanks
JohnGalway
Ask your preferred gun dealer. If you tell them the situation and put a deposit on a rifle costing X amount, I wouldn't expect them to ask for Y amount when you pay the balance. To me, once a deposit is put on something then the final price has already been agreed.
Horrocks
just considering the chances of not being granted a cert, which i suppose is unlikely
Baldrick
Horrocks, Essex Police is pretty generous with the FACs it hands out, so don't worry about not getting it granted. Roding Armoury is a top-drawer RFD, and I'd strongly recommend putting down that deposit ASAP. If they can't help you, call Alan Walker at Eastern Sporting in Chelmsford. Keep calling around til you find the exact rifle you want in stock. As John says above, a deposit should lock you in at an agreed price. Get cracking. JohnGalway
just considering the chances of not being granted a cert, which i suppose is unlikely System is a bit different here. We got to put a deposit on a gun first, then apply as we need a serial number. Any time I've asked what happens to the deposit if I'm refused I've been told no problem you will have it back. But I know ye guys do it differently, I'd just be straight with the dealer. Put the situation to him, I don't know if I'm granted a FAC yet but I'd like to put money down a on a rifle now, and if I'm refused can I get the deposit back? Worst case scenarios are... You don't put money down and you wait so you pay the increase on the gun. You put money down, don't get granted, dealer keeps deposit. It's not my money. But I'd chance my arm in asking the dealer straight. Worst he can say is no.
Horrocks
Thanks for the advice on roding armoury. i've heard nothing bad about them and plenty of good, i'll be going round tommorow to do it, They've got the exact rifle, .17hmr CZ 22'' american. I wonder if things go wrong they'd refund the deposit, what do you think? much obliged
Baldrick
They probably would refund the deposit. I have a 22" barrelled CZ .17 HMR, and I find the barrel length pretty unwieldy for shooting from a truck window. At the time and as a left-hander, I didn't have the option of a 16" barrel. I wish I had though. The extra 6" do not improve or degrade the accuracy.
