missed
How does buying a shotgun from a private seller and having it shipped via RFD work? How do I pay the sellar for the gun? Do you have to pay the RFD at both ends and if so how much does this cost? Thanks for any guidance on this fellas.
clayman
You only need one RFD at the buyers end - there is no need for two unless the buyers RFD does not have secure collection arrangements. An RFD who is a member of the GTA ( Gun Trade Association) has access to special secure arrangements for gun collection with TNT can collect the gun from you, and hand it on to the buyer. Typically, this will cost £15-00 carriage plus whatever admin charge the RFD will make. The buyer usually pays this and makes the arrangements. The remote RFD will need to provide their details, usually a copy of their cert, so you can check the validity with you or their FLD. A phone call is sufficient. You declare the gun as transferred to the RFD in the normal reporting way to your FLD. The remote RFD completes the buyers SGC table and informs the buyers FLD of the completed transfer. If the buyers RFD does not have collection arrangements, then you need to use your local RFD to send, in which case you may get an admin charge from them as well as the carriage costs. The buyer will still need to pay whatever charges the remote RFD requires. Jerry RFD Sy
missed
Thanks for the info. How do I send payment to the seller? Is just by normal means ie. cheque and then hope they are honest send the gun?
clayman
Thats all you can do unless you can arrange escrow. If the intermediary RFD is willing, the money could be deposited with them, and when the gun is delivered by the seller handed to them at that point. This would probably mean needing two RFDs and the extra costs, as the seller would need to deliver to his local one and get paid, but that RFD cant dispatch to you, only to the RFD that will fill in your cert. I'd assumed you were selling a gun, but the single RFD thing works with a gun coming to you in a similar way, but you will need to find the local RFD willing to have the gun picked up. J@mes
Thanks for the info. How do I send payment to the seller? Is just by normal means ie. cheque and then hope they are honest send the gun? this is what I did when I bought my gun via RFD - sent a cheque up and waited for it to clear before the seller sent the gun. Be VERY careful with this though, its very easy to get stung.
