Scotty6873
Hi All, Just wondering if any of you can help... Been looking around for my first gun. Local gushop has a Winchester 'Diamond Grade xtr 28" Multi Choke. He say's it is a sporter. Apparently Japanese made. Looks in quite good condition, not too many signs of use. He is asking £725 I will mainly be shoot sporting clays with the odd day of rough shooting occasionally. Thing is, I know nothing about this make / type of gun. It feels nice..but would it be right for me? Does it sound expensive? It is slightly out of my budget...although if it is a good buy, I could stretch to it. Any advice would be great.. clayman
As long as the gun fits you its a good gun and will suit your purpose, but remember a £100 Baikal that fits you will break more clays than a £10,000 gun that doesn't. Make sure you know what gun fit means before you commit, and then find yu need to chop it to bits to get a correct fit.
Scotty6873
Thanks for replying. There is thin wooden plate attached to the end of the stock about 10mm thick. I think the stock could probably do with being 1/2" longer to fit me better.
clayman
Stock length is measured from the knuckle of the thumb on the grip to your nose. Should be 2 1/2 to 3". This measure depends on having correct footwork, mount, and head placement on the comb. If you are inexperienced in correct mount, be cautious about deciding the stock is wrong, as it may be the way you are standing and mounting. Very good guidance to all aspects of fit and mount, as well as master eye problems, is in the Clay Targets Shooters Handbook - £8-95 on Ebay or £12-00 from the CPSA
