Sporter or Game gun?

Hi, A sporter is heavier than a game gun, therefore it absorbs recoil better so you dont feel it as much. If you are rough shooting ie. doing a lot of walking a game gun would be better because they are easier to carry, But for clay & pigeon shooting a sporter would be best...or what about the best of both worlds a semi automatic lighter than a sporter but absorbs recoil better than both them.... :good:

As said, dedicated game guns may be made lighter as they may need to be carried around all day, but in most cases the differences are small.

Fixed choke game guns are usually tighter choked, 1/2 and 3/4, or 3/4 full - some are 1/4 3/4 - depends on what you want to shoot in game terms. while clay sporting guns typically 1/4 and 1/2. Choke differences are irrelevant if M/C of course. SST more useful on game guns than on clays, as you may have differnt loads in the differnt barrels and want to choose the optimum barrel quickly for game. D/T in game is not a disadvantage in this respect, but you'd want ST for clays. Clay gun will usually be manual safety, while game versions auto-safe.

Both will be fine for the other application if you buy M/C. Buy which ever you are likely to do more of, sporter in clays is the main thing, game if game is the main use.
