Mick Shoey
Good evening, I am thinking about getting some 28'' skeet barrels (fixed choke) for my Beretta 682 gold E. It currently has 30'' multi choke barrel's and an adjustable stock. Is it possible to buy after market Beretta barrels ? I know I can buy a 28'' barreled Beretta skeet gun, but what's the point if I have a 682 stock/action/fore-end. Any help would be appreciated. I can't find any on the internet. Thank's. DaveH
Strangely enough I just asked GMK the same question last week: £595 for the barrels £95 for fitting £150 for a beavertail foreend HTH Dave
Mick Shoey
Hi Dave, I already have the fore-end. I thought that all 682 gold E part's were interchangeable, so would I need to send the gun away and pay for fitting cost's ? I was hoping they would just post me a set of skeet barrel's. Do you think that would be an option ? Would you know who to contact at GMK ? Thanks, Mick.
beretta
ring round a few gun shops. there are a few knocking about and then get a gunsmith to fit the barrels to your action and forend. most berettas will interchange 'more or less' but some better than others. DaveH
Hi Mick, If you've got a Gold E Sporter you'll probably have a Schnabel fore-end, rather than a beavertail? I've only ever seen an older Gold E Skeet in the flesh and it had a beavertail fore-end and barrels which were only joined at the muzzle end, rather than the vented join on the current model. The effect of a very familiar action mated to a different set of barels and fore-end was very striking . I think the latest version has fixed choke barrels but joined by a vented strip like the Sporter. A word of warning, the newer beavertail fore-end doesn't have the oval laser cut checkering (although I'm sure you could get one from Cole Guns in the States). They told me the fitting cost was to get the timing correct ....... Any resident gunsmiths on here? If you call GMK on 01489 579999 they will be able to advise. Not sure if anybody here has a contact in the technical dept? An alternative option might be to call the Beretta Gallery on 0207 408 4411. The other option might be to buy a set of normal 28" multichoked barrels and add appropriate chokes (not sure but I think you can get flush optimachokes if you want to keep the barrel length down??). One final word of caution on Optima Skeet chokes. There's a Red banded one (described as European Skeet) which trombones out to wider than cylinder and a Purple one (described as American Skeet) which is slightly more constricted than cylinder. I'm currently using a m/c 28" barrel with red in the bottom barrel and purple in the top. It seems to work for me but I'm just a newbie.... Mick Shoey
Thank you gentlemen, I will contact Beretta but £595. for barrel's is a bit expensive. I will probably try to pick up some second hand 28'' multi choke barrel's. If anyone here's of any would you give me a shout ? Thanks for your help. T.C.
Most skeet shooters I know favour 30 inch or 32 inch barrels . Why would you want to go to 28 inches ?
DaveH
Most skeet shooters I know favour 30 inch or 32 inch barrels . Why would you want to go to 28 inches ? All Beretta Skeet models are only available in 28". Browning Skeet models are available in 28 or 30". There's a trend amongst shooters for longer barrels at the moment, just as Skeet guns a few years ago were mostly 26" barrels or less. T.C.
To expand on my previous post , most skeet shooters I know (many of the high profile shooters ) use multichoke sporting guns not specialised skeet guns.
DaveH
Hi Mick, Derek Lee Gunsmiths in Lincs are advertising a set of "Mint 682 M/C" barrels for £450 in this week's Shooting Times. Note that they don't say which type of 682 barrels they are (I believe that the older 682s had Mobil choked barrels ) so be careful.
