Dispsarity in planting times

Do you find that crops are planted at different times of the year depending on how far up/down the country you go.

Are some thing planted earlier in the south because of the comparitivly warmer weather or is it all down to farmers crop rotation?

I often find people are saying things are just going in the ground however they have been there a while around here.

either that or my crop identification is flawed, which is a possibility.

Could do with a sticky with pictures of each of the crops at sprout, young, half grown and full grown stages to help us struggling. *hint hint*
