FREE decoy Peckers !!!

Ok I'll let you into a little secret. This will only work with those of you with a pigeon magnet.

You can make as many auto pecker decoys as you want. All you need is some decoys, fishing line, scrap metal and wood.

Now, I don't know how to post pics so you'll have to bear with me.

Take a shell decoy and the plastic stick that comes with it. Drill a hole through the top of the stick and put a screw through it into a small block of wood so it has an easy free movement. Screw the block to the under side of the shell decoy so that it hinges on the stick. Now put a nail through the top of the shell into the wood.

OK that's the first bit made.

Now make a bracket on the side of your magnet. You can use wood or metal. I slipped a bit of wood up one of the legs and fixed it there with a bolt as I have one of those 3 legged spinners made from threaded rod. Screw to that a bit of wood or metal about 6 inches long, do this by drilling a larger hole in it than the screw and half way along the length. so it looks like a propeller. Now with any look when the magnet spins the arms will hit the 'propeller' and knock it forward about 3 inches.( You'll have to adjust the length of the 'propellor' and bracket to suit you own magnet.) Then fix a weight to the bottom of 1 of the propeller blades so that when the arms hit it and knock it forward it'll swing back to an upright position. ( I fixed a screw to the bracket so the proppela would only move forward when hit by the arms and then hit the screw when it swang back at top centre so you only have say 80 degrees of movement and no swing back from the upright position.)

Right, when your in the field and have set up the magnet, Tie some fishing line to the top op the proppela and take it out to your hinged decoy and tie it to the top of the nail. Now get it running. You'll see the arms hit the top of the proppela and at the same time pull the decoys head forward in a pecking motion and drop back. ( some adjustment of the decoy is needed when the magnet is spinning to get it set right).

So, in a nut shell, the magnets arms hit the top of the propeller which pulls fishing line that's fixed to the top of the propeller and the decoy, making it peck.

Well I hope you'll understand my instructions, It's a bit hard to explain but it's really easy and quick to make, plus it'll save you a mint. I've used mine a couple of times and it works amazingly well.( just ask Marco and Ochre .)

I would love to know how you get on and if anyone has tried it.... It works for me. :):):)

Good idea!

One small problem i see is, 25 lines if fishing line going out over the field.

We'll be like Tom Cruise in "mision Impossable" trying to get passed the lazer beams when colecting a dead bird :)

Bloody good idea though, not sure i could be bothered to set it up though, bad enough setting up the normal stuff.

:) :) :)
