groach1234
Today i sore both a black rabit and a white pheasant for the first time. are black rabbits natural or will it have been an escaped pet? George

dpile1
Black rabbits are apparently caused by a mutation within the rabbits DNA. Apparently they're prevalent in small groups of insular rabbits, it's normally indicative of inbreeding within a small rabbit population. I've only ever shot one. When you see them up close, they've actually got wild rabbit markings and are not jet black.
CZ550Kevlar
Yep genetic throwback/defect, as you can well imagine rabbits like this very rarely pass on their genectic markers, hence lack of them around.
groach1234
This is all very interesting especially with the black rabbits back onto the white pheasant, could you shoot them on this estate because my dad told me he once got a £50 fine for shooting a white pheasant by accident and never repeated it.
