Gutted with a capital G!

Went fishing on the reidol today after deliberating getting a ticket, found a great little pool and was fishing away with a small red flying 'c'. On about the third cast saw a large fish following the lure then turn away at the last minute. Got excited, and casted a few more times while my girlfriend mooched around on the bank. Suddenly line went tight and i was into a heavy fish, it was only about 8lb line so the fight was fantastic with the clutch on the reel wizzing away, he ran the pool 3 times, surging down into the deep black corner then splashing his tail out on the surface, i was yelling at her to get the net ready (should have done it myself) got him in close to the side, but he was off again and i thought i had lost him but he was just lying up at the bottom only to come back up again full throttle! my heart was in my throat wanting to land him so much, got him in again and was telling her net it net it, she got the net under (its friggin tail) i said the other side, get its head in.... and i had a huge releved feeling when i could see it going in.. but to late it thrashed on the net and i felt the hook come out, and for about a second (felt like ages) it thrashed, half in the net while she half heartedly tried to get him in! but he dissapeared back down into the depths.

 

I was so gutted!!! and whats even worse when i was (admitedly swearing and cursing quite badly) she made it worse with comments like: o well it was only a fish!! and god get some councilling if its that much of a big deal, i tried my best!!! At least i got the exciting fight, and hes there for another day. It was a cock salmon, quite red so would have to put him back anyway, just wished i could have had a hold of him and a photo to cherish!!

 

shes in the bad books big time (although probably only so i can have someone to blame) and shes sitting over there on the sofa with a face on! you could cut the tension in this room with a knife haha feel better now its documented!!! i reckon it was around 12lb but hard to say, because i havent caught many big fish, more of a shooter.
