Blunderbuss
I was out and about in the car on a few errands this afternoon with no real intention of door knocking (though I've always got an eye out) and on the off chance, called in at a likely looking farm about 7 or 8 miles from home. I spoke first to an old boy walking up the lane who told me to go and see either one of his two sons who were working in the farm yard. I found one guy there, stacking 600kg bags of fertiliser with a huge forklift in a barn. I was a bit worried I'd called at a bad time and that he'd be annoyed at me interrupting him. I waited around until he reversed out of the barn into the yard where i was stood and switched his engine off. I introduced myself and we shook hands as he stayed sat in the cab. I came straight to the point. Almost before I'd finished the first sentence he said, "you're welcome to come and shoot pigeons here any time you like"! To say I was bowled away was an understatement! :look: I was all primed to talk about about how local, reliable and conscientious I was, BASC member, only use fibre wads, respect property etc etc. I never got the chance! He said I'd probably missed the best of it with the spring drilling but he said they did get hammered, and said harvest time is always good. He has 350 acres and another plot a few miles away which he said he would let me use! Also said he could introduce me to some other farmers. He said there aren't that many pigeons about right now, but that I was more than welcome to try my luck any time. He leases the game shooting to a syndicate and said that I'd need to keep off during the pheasant season (fair enough) but that he'd introduce me to the keeper anyway. I'm going back tomorrow so he can show me the boundaries and sign a permission slip. I'm more chuffed than a very chuffed thing. Blunderbuss
Nice one mate keep doing the same myself no luck as yet, but as they say. Every no is one closer to a yes... Good attitude I'd had a few knock backs. I posted this because I found it encouraging when others reported their success on here. I hope this encourages someone else to knock on one more door, because it might be 'the one'. Good luck with yours Edited May 1, 2009 by Blunderbuss
