Yonic
Hi. myself and a couple of friends have just taken on a bit of land with a view to running a few small walked up days on it. The land was shot until recent years and has a good head of wild stock. Years Ago I was an underkeeper and we reared our own on the shoot and used to catch up and have the laying pens then hatched our own. The question I have is next year it would be nice to catch up a few birds on this land with a view to rearing some birds to put down. Somebody has told me that the law has changed recently and it is now illegal to catch up pheasants as they are wild birds. I do believe he is talking rubbish but wanted to check. Cheers Jon
Yonic
Phoned BASC. The answer to this is under Section 5 of the wildlife act is you are allowed to take wild game birds if the sole reason is for breading purposes. scolopax
You also only catch up pheasant during the shooting season, i.e the last day you can catch up is the 1st February.
