Gun advise

Hi,

After buying a cheapie shotgun that doesn't really fit well I have decided to get a bit more serious and buy a half decent gun. I have around £1k to spend, so went to the dealer who quickly selected a Browning Citori (and other 525 variants) as I am a bit lanky. The gun felt nice enough but he was pretty insistent that Browning was the make for me. He did a few checks and seemed happy enough but I wasn't sure of how much of the rib I should see, and to be honest this is something I neglected to ask. Anyhow enough rambling I guess I have a couple of questions:

  • What should my view of the rib / bead be?
  • What alternatives do I have to Browning - similar fit?
  • Does the extra 3/8 of an inch in stock length make a difference?
  • Are there any after market butt pads that can be used to lengthen the stock without any further adjustments?

Thanks in advance,

Kev

for similar guns look at Miroku and Winchester Select (all made under browning), gun fit is the MOST important part of buying a gun so take your time and try a few, you will know if they feel right.

Whats wrong with your vurrent gun fit? too short in the stock?

Hi, yes that was about the amount of rib. I had a go with a winchester select but the beads lined up exactly, which i don't think is right.

Yes my current gun is way too short. I will keep it anyway as a spare for friends or maybe even cut it down for the Mrs.

A lot of people say they see none of the rib. But I think that is wrong.

The way to check is look in a mirror. You should see the whole of your eye, but none of your cheek. If the gun has a half-way bead, the end bead should sit on top of this to make an '8' picture, if you see what I mean.

Or you should be able to see the end bead over a £1 coin set 1 inch forward of the breech.

:good::lol: :lol:
