My Precious......

Some good points which along with my reply may help others....

My set up requirement was born out of experience to date and the fact I wanted my open ticket to be on a sensible calibre to cover all eventualities going forward.

I believe the .223 I have to be the optimum Foxing setup but would not cover all Deer so .243 it had to be.

I looked at both full and semi custom and found people wanted to sell me rather than listen to what I wanted, so I reverted to look at a good factory Rifle. Then you find availability problems (which are many) I looked at the Sako 85 and the Tikka Super Varmint, the heavy barrel on the varmint should be a tad more stable at distance shots should I wish to do any target shooting . The search was not easy but I found a TikKa at F A Andersons and had to get it shipped. Scope wise I am really fussy and found all other top enders had something lacking or not to my liking. Check out the warranty with S&B 30 years!

The set up was expensive, but my thoughts are in the future I will be pleased I splashed out now. The old saying buy cheap buy twice is very true so my advice is always go for the best your budget allows.

Nice looking gun Pavman, although I'd hate to have to shoot that freehand standing with that scope on there.

So is that a hogue stock or synthetic with Hogue (Rubberised) patches?

Assuming you'll be using it for all forms of deer, what bullet grain you planning on using for say Fallow, Red? I'm currently using Partizan 105gn (£11/20) through mine and groups acceptable. Now I have a few fire formed cases I'm going to start reloading.

Just a question, I realise you are going to be mostly shooting foxes, but if out with a 55gn round whilst foxing and an opportunity comes along to shoot say a Roe, fallow etc. are you going to carry a heavy load to swap over and then adjust the scope for zero at given range? Or stick to a heavy load for all foxing and deer knowing the zero of said load and have no hassle of adjusting turrets?

Only ask as I know a few who do, but most I've spoken to say a dead fox is a dead fox with a 90+gn and you're not worrying about meat damage on a fox after all.

I would like to say that I will settle for an all round load and Zero to that to cover all but target shooting, in the field I dont at present re set the turret as I prefer to holdover/under and windage as required
