  1. In Essex the magic number is 11 then you must have an alarm. Hence the reason he put me down for 10 so I wouldn't come under their radar. Give the chap his dues he was very helpful & tbh on my side I think :-) Does annoy me though when different force Chiefs decide to as you say "Bend" the interpretation of the law to suit their own opinion or wants. Will be interesting to see how I get on with the Black powder licence application :-)
  2. I have a 6 gun cabinet, & have 9 s/g in it. I had a call from my FEO, regarding this as on their records I only had a 4 gun cabinet, which I originally had but got a bigger 6 one. He stated that Essex say that if it's a 6 gun then that's all you can put in it, other forces like Suffolk for instance, 1/2 a mile from me say if the door shuts you can squeeze as many as that will fit in. I said that the only thing that makes mine a 6 is the foam insert with cut outs for each barrel, if removed who's to know what it is ?? He asked how many I have now, I told him 9 & plenty of room still, so he sad that's fine then & updated mine to a 10, he said once you mention 11 they want alarms on your house etc, so I was happy with 10 :-). As stated the socks are great, I keep all mine in full length ones to keep protected from knocks & they are also impregnated with silicone oil or something that helps keep moisture at bay :-) Only 6-7 quid each on ebay. Well worth it :-)
  3. Cheers for the info U :-) all sounds rather daunting :-) Once i pick it up prob in a week or 2 I'll get back to you for some lessons in flint lock fun :-) Again Cheers for the info. all the best Dan.
  4. Nice Musket there :-) Here's a couple of pics of the Brown Bess I'm going to get, he popped it in to work today for me to see. Also had a little "go" only with powder though :-) no shot. Deffo thinking about going for a BP licence now looks fun :-) Underdog, do you need a special safe etc for the powder, or can you store it with ordinary cartridges, I have a lockable safe for them. One other question, might sound silly, but when using shot in a musket how do you load it ? do you wrap it up in paper and ram it down the barrel the same as with a ball etc ? Cheers Dan. Here;s a link to a video, I won't post it as the chap filming uses rather fruity language to say the least :-) http://s74.photobucket.com/user/Danlord40/media/Brown%20Bess%20003.mp4.html
  5. Cheers for all the info, I was going to just keep it as a collectible, but quite fancy firing it now :-) whats the restrictions regarding use etc ? does it need to be a range,or can you fire them on a farmers field etc like a 12 bore ? do you need a good reason to get the black powder licence ? Again many thanks for all the info & help. Cheers Dan.
  6. Hi many thanks for the replies :-) It is a smoothbore musket , a Black Bess, apposed to the Brown Bess, so hopefully will be ok on sgc, dont intend firing it, just rather liked it :-) thanks again Dan
  7. Hi all, quick question, do you need a black powder licence to own a reproduction flintlock rifle ? A chap at work is selling one cheap,& i was wondering if i could own it on my SGC. Any help as always greatly appreciated. Cheers Dan.
  8. You can get Straight pull FAC ones here http://www.rusmilitary.com/html/firearms_svd.htm A tad pricey though. Yes it's an Interesting display piece, sad that it's been welded etc, it was a 1st Gulf War bring back. probably tell a story or two if it could talk :-)
  9. So I take it you can;t just use lead pipe / flashing then :-(. Thanks anyway for the info. Cheers Dan.
  10. Hi all, I've been reading this thread with great interest, & really fancy having ago at making some shot myself now :-) A couple of questions, is the lead for the shot just plain lead or do you need to mix it with something ? The other is does anyone have a pan they want to sell ? Any help greatly appreciated as usual :-) Cheers Dan.
  11. excellent pictures !! Nice to see keep up the good work. I love the Owl,
  12. Can't remember his name, I brought several boxes from him of "normal" 16g stuff & he gave me a bag of odds n **** & these were in there :-) Thanks for the info FC interesting to know :-)
  13. Hi all, I was recently given a handful old old paper cartridges. I like the old style stuff, thought some of you might be interested :-) Don't really know how old they are, but they all have Eley Kynoch on the base, so I'd say they are fairly old 50's -60's ? Anyway I thought I'd put up a few piccys of them. Cheers Dan.
  14. Hi have a couple of these myself, I use them when traveling to & from the range, probably wouldn't take someone very long to get off, but as Fieldsports says, every little extra security can only help. As for damaging the trigger guard, mine have rubber on each side to protect it so no issues there
  15. Essex police use this one I'm sure the required information is the same http://www.essex.police.uk/pdf/firearms%20-%20form%20123.pdf
