In praise of The Gun Shop, Rugby.

As some of you may know I recently bought a Super 10 (which was sold as action and stock only no air bottle or magazines) which though sold as sub 12 was packing an export only reg. The local RFD checked and lo it was at 28 ft lb. That was taken back by the auction house after they asked me to deliver it back, they were told Gonads, as it was a section 1 firearm now.

The I spotted a Super 10 for sale from the Gun Shop in Rugby. This had both air bottle and magazines and was supposedly tested. Say supposedly as when we got it back and loaded it up, a lovely 13.8 ft lb was displayed on the chrono. The action was removed from the stock, not an FAC reg, my guess was the hammer spring. Had a word with the local RFD and was told £20-30 to fix. Spoke to The Gun Shop, who said to take it to the gunsmith and get him to sort it, if it was going to be more expensive then they would get it collected, they would pay for the fix or refund us the money.

Well the cost is £20 for the fix, the gun works well and The Gun Shop in Rugby are sticking by their word and are refunding me the £20 for the fix. Nice people to deal with!

So you're singing the praises of a dealer that sold you an illegal gun?-How would you have stood had you been stopped by the police on the way home and they submitted the gun for testing?

Quite simple I had a receipt showing purchase of what should have been a sub 12 gun, there would have been no way to identify it being a section one unless you took the action out of the stock or run a chrono test (as somebody claimed to have done). Good faith apparently does cover you according to Norfolk Firearms team. It may have covered me with that damned FAC from Holts, but that should have been checked out of stock because no air bottle and magazine were supplied when it was sold.

"or run a chrono test"-as the police are within their rights to do?-unlikely maybe but where would you be now if they had-you were clearly in possession of a Firearm and I have a pound to bet against a penny of pig**** that the shop would have suggested that you had tampered with it-yet you sing their praises? IMHO they were very lucky to get away with forking out a few pounds for selling a Firearm to an unlicensed member of the public-not to mention the dealer to whom you handed a Firearm who altered it and gave it back to you-what a legal minefield?

What offence? Ensuring the gun is in legal limits is something that responsible airgun owners are supposed to do. As for the gunshop, well sometimes mistakes happen (as they did with the auction house), however what you do to rectify them counts.

Asking someone to illegally move a section 1 firearm that is in the care of an RFD is hellishly different to coming to an agreement to do what is legally required.

What about the HWs that were shipped from RFDsthat were overpower straight from the box? Who is responsible then? As they were never registered as being FAC can they legally be returned to non FAC and given back to the people that bought them? Same with any over power sub 12. Mistakes happen, mine got sorted and the Gun Shop (a small retailer) worked well to sort it out as opposed to the auction house (supposedly Europe'e largest specialist firearm auctioneer), who wanted me to transport it back.

"Ensuring the gun is in legal limits is something that responsible owners are supposed to do"-10/10-but it's something that a Dealer is LEGALLY required to do and NO mistakes are acceptable under any circumstances-if you want to promote a business that was negligent and sold you a firearm then be my guest. As for HW's being delivered over power-the responsibility is theirs obviously-so maybe you can sing their praises as well.
