    6 pinks with one shot!
Now that’s going to take some beating.

It wasn’t the most sporting shot to be fair. The sport lay in the stalk then when I looked over the dyke they jumped and I fired. I was that astonished to see so many drop I forgot my second barrel. 6 was more than enough though!

Wow, great result, the ten looks well used and as it should given your exploits. 4 for 2 out of the same bunch, isn't that a R&L x2..😉

Yes it’s been through a few hands before I got it, some well know fowlers up here have had it at some point.

Multiple shots? I once had 5 teal to one shot, and I stalked and killed 6 pinks with one shot on a stubble.

  3. It was raining when I woke and given this season I have taken more than my fair share of soakings I went back to bed.

As always when I don’t get out in the morning I spend the rest of the day getting under my wife’s feet and wishing I had went out. When she said it’s not to rain this afternoon why don’t you go out. The words had barely left her mouth and I was getting the gun out of the cabinet.

I had no expectations as I headed to the big estuary as the tide was going to be dropping. No sooner had I settled down at my usual spot then 9 mallard came over me. My first shot dropped 2 then my next shot also dropped 2. One was a runner and gave the dog a run around until it tired and the dog got him.

After that I went off the boil shooting wise, missing a good few shots and loosing a teal to the tide which was frustrating.

It wasn’t until darkness that some form came back to me. I managed to add a teal and a greylag.

It was a heavy walk back the mile or so to the car.

High performance steel and standard steel have different CIP standards, momentum is the limiting factor.

12 Ns for standard steel 12gauge

13.5 Ns for 12/70mm High performance steel

15 Ns for 12/73mm or longer High performance steel

momentum is the mass of the shot x its velocity.

Please forgive my ignorance… but how do you work out the mass of the shot?

I enjoyed  reading your post so please keep up the write ups.

I was just stating that the majority of fowlers  (well the ones I know of) are really secretive about there exploits and rarely ever talk about there flights.

Apologies if I came across a little blunt that wasn't my intention.

    Cheers it’s all good!

Edenman, I never intended to imply that I had not enjoyed reading your story.   Probably I could have worded it better.   I have been a member of PW for many a year.   I was instrumental, by way of a plea to Teal, in getting a section for fowlers added to the site.   In the early days it was pigeons only.   Now it includes stalking, game shooting and many other things.   I think that the older members will back me up when I say that I would never deliberately shoot a man down for telling us how he enjoyed his days/nights sport.   I sincerely apologise if I upset you.   Above all, keep posting about fowling.   If I can no longer get there I can enjoy reading about it.

No need to apologise I think I was being overly sensitive.

    cheers

Excellent result and the old saying , you only get out it what you put in it is never a truer word spoken .

Well done on all accounts and your post might well encourage some other wild fowlers who are thinking of giving it go under the moon to at least give it a try .  HAPPY NEW YEAR .

I agree with you. You have to be in it to win it!
