  2. Hi fellas, Any chance there are some shooters in Somerset that wouldnt mind a hand?
  3. Yip I'm keen. I have done a search online but I cant find the location details. Anyone know the postcode so I can get there?
  4. As usual, the feedback has been brilliant, thank you. Mr Pieman - legendary advice - I will get out into the paddock this afternoon and put together my first pattern plate.
  5. I am keen to expand how much I shoot and would like to get in to pest control - rabbits, pigeon etc. I'm kind of hoping next time someone in the local area heads out, they wouldn't mind me tagging along. I have shot mostly clays over the past six months but nothing equals time in the field.
  6. A recent box of 12g cartridges contained one that didnt drop in to the barrels as normal - I had to push it in to place. I'm assuming there may have been too much shot in the cartridge as it was it was a little bloated around the top. If I come across this kind of thing in the future, are cartridges that I have to push into place safe to use? Apologies in advance if its a bit of a daft question - I would rather play it safe.
  7. Thanks for you feedback guys. Bit of a shame about Highlanders attitude but understandable. Being new to shooting its the same old story of how do you get in to the sport when you dont know anyone else that's in to shooting. I have done a full day coaching course, attended a gun handling/safely course and had several private lessons. I have also taken another members advice and purchased a book titled "the art of good shooting" - it was a good read. We all had to start somewhere and I suspect I have done more towards being competent before buying a shotgun, that most other beginners have. During coaching lessons, there are only so many questions you can ask before you come across like a bit of ****. Hence the reason why I use this forum to learn for others. I did purchase the 7 1/2's for clays but just want to get out there and get some experience. I have picked up a box of 6's and will give them a go - if nothing else, to learn from.
  8. Thanks for your replies, The Baikal has a fixed choke and the quarry at the moment covers rabbits, pigeons and crows. Overall, as Im new to shooting, Im struggling with the effective range - I dont want to be wasting lead if the quarry is too far away. If you could give me some pointers on the sort of range I should be shooting within, I would appreciate it. Cheers
  9. Hi, I need your advice.... I have picked up some new 12g shells from the local gun shop but I’m not sure on the distance of the shot. The shells are marked: Kent Velocity 70mm 7 and a 1/2 - 28 gms I’m using a Baikal with 30" barrels with no chokes. All opinions would be welcomed,
  10. HI, I'm interested - any chance you could send some specs and pics? Cheers
  11. Hi, Great response guys - thank you for getting back to my post. I should have got on to this website sooner. Im getting a clear picture that gun shop owners may not always have the new shooters best interests at heart. I will tread with caution when buying. Great advice on the rubber saddle/beartooth Clayman - this will be the answer to assist with raising the comb if its needed. It sounds like I can sort out pretty much any issue once I have made a sensible purchase. I have read plenty of info on the quality and reliability of Lanbers when making a solid first purchase so I will keep my eyes wide open for one. I live in Somerset but spend quiet a bit of time in Oxford as well - I am prepared to drive to where ever I need to, to get the right gun thought.
  12. Hi, I am new to shooting and have just got my cert through. I have done some shooting already but now am dead keen to make my first shotgun purchase (for clay shooting and some game). I have checked out the stock at my local gun shop but due to my size, (6.2" / high cheek bones) have been told that I will be looking at around £600 to by a gun that fits me. I have been keeping an eye on Guntrader but there doesn't seem to be much in my price range (£300 - £400) that will fit me. Is there anyone out there that has a well looked after 28/30 o/u with a long stock and high comb that is collecting dust and would consider selling? The top end of my budget is around £350. I'm hoping someone with-in the shooting community may be able to help me out to get started. I have had some good advice to keep my eye out for a Lanber, a Lincoln, a Laurona, a Rizzini,or possibly an old Miroku 800 but overall, I just want to get a gun that fits me so I can start some serious shooting. If anyone has any advice at all, I would welcome your thoughts. Cheers
