Thanks GordonWell done Jay - keep hitting those magpies.

Yeah I can shoot vermin with .223 and my 7mm rem mag is any lawful quarry so could use that too if I wanted tooNice shooting pal... Do you have to have it conditioned on your licence to shoot ground game and vermin with a center fire?

I've got a stainless 10/22 never found the shiny barrel to be a problem

Having done the channel on a ship the sheer amount of traffic is mind boggling from French fishing boats trawling straight across your path to little coaster cargo ships zipping about and hundreds at any time on your radar of big commercial cargo ships and ferries I think you would have to know what your doing to want to cross in a 40 year old boat of unknown strength and a tiny radar signature. That said it would be an adventureThe boat I am being drawn towards has done France and Holland.
The Channel is daunting for a novice and not something I fancy at all, but the boat is set up with ship to shore, sat nav, navigation lights, echo sounder, compass etc.
I know about the radio licence and I will not be heading across the channel until I get a lot more experience/knowledge/certificates, if ever, but who knows...........

Been out a couple of times in the last few days with my mate mike. The first picture is some rabbits taken off the local golf course all off sticks ranges between about 20yrds out to just over 100yrds. Rifle is cz 452 varmint in hmr
Second pic is a few rabbits taken by mike today only went out to zero his .243 really so i took my .223 to spot for him. you can see one behind the rifle and one just in front these were both about 145yrds. Rifle is a steyr ssg69 in .243
I shot two magpies one after the other today too at about 150yrds you can see one by the rifle one just through the wire. Rifle is a cam in .223

Enjoy it, my 10-22 comes out more than any of my other guns lately

I wouldn't bother seems to be no gains for the hassle involved, however that said if you want one then go for it

I've got fluted barrels on three of my rifles and whilst I can't say the cool any quicker for sure they do look better and any weight saving is usually a good thing too. Not very helpful I know

For a few hundred quid falcon scopes are well worth a look

I've got a standard barrel hmr and my mates got the varmint barrel on his, both shoot the same. Just get whichever you prefer the look of

I've got a 3-12 diavari v and its awesome in all light conditions, I'm sure you will be suitably impressed

Didn't basc say that fox could be taken as vermin fairly recently? I'm sure I read it in the magazine. So if you've for vermin conditions it fine

The Remington he's looking at is the drop mag versionI run Tikkas and Rem 700.
Get either, my choice would be Tikka, for one reason only, the magazine/floor plate, much prefer magazines.

Chin up mate I know it's rough but always try and remember that there's alway people somewhere that would give up limbs to be having your bad day rather than there'sno better today, one of the end anchors on my net pulled out and I have been up since 4.30 unwrapping 80m of 14 ft deep net from around rocks and I only got 4kg of mullet and 1 kg of turbot. ime going to see said "friend" today and let him know my how I feel about it all
