  1. Had a little chuckle reading this, I picked up a shotgun for the first time when I was about 11 I am now 61.I I first shot rabbits, ducks, woodcock and snipe I didn't shoot my first pheasant until I was gone 30. I have had my current gun a 1965 Beretta 56e over 20 years i have never shot at a clay ground, twice friends have set up a trap once on a farm and once in the wood's both times I have tried it I found it totally boring to be honest.Clay grounds are for getting pups used to gun shot. But good luck if that is your game.I have tried thinking how much rib I see? Not a clue.Bead just checked to see what type it is surprised to see it is a white one.People have asked what lead I gave on a high bird that I have just shot?not a Scooby doo.Where are my feet ?  at the other end of my legs. I find if I start thinking about what I am doing my shooting goes to ratsh*t.But I have never been kept awake thinking or worrying about why I had a bad day.But good luck to you all and just enjoy your shooting whatever type you do. And Happy Christmas to you all

  2. Firstly, unless Im mistaken, Dekers is a professional pest controller. Secondly, and again unless Im mistaken, you propose to accompany your partner with a pistol while he does the shooting? If so why doesnt HE apply for the pistol? Why does a stalker need a partner armed with a pistol? What happens when you arent available to accompany him?

Like Ive said; I strongly believe in the ownership of handguns if all calibres, but I still cant underatand why you simply cant finish it off with another rifle shot?

Who says you can't finish it off with another rifle shot. That may be your choice.Have you never heard of freedom of choice. He may want a pistol that is his choice

  5. You just have to accept that the 22RF is a bit loopy compared with the 17HMR. I have recently been doing some rabbit control from a static position where chances popped out from just a few yards out to 100yrds so I took the trouble to check fall of shot at four different points. Still a great little cartridge for those keeny meeny jobs where you need to be as quiet as possible. Two squirrels this weekend would only have ben one without the silent RF. Shot the first at 40yrds when the second was still coming up the ride towards me 70yrds away and it kept coming and joined his pal as buzzard grub.

Don't you eat them yourself, what a waste of good meat

  6. I'm looking after them in their own home, 24 miles from me hence 48mile round trip,

So far it's been all good and a few proper funny moments.

I've told my sons partner that whilst I'm loving doing it this week, and for nothing more than diesel money to help them out whilst they make more suitable long term arrangements, but it is a full time job for someone and more responsibility than I can take on.

I've reiterated my willingness to help out on an add hoc basis or even just a couple of days a week.

Her HMP salary I believe is circa £26k,

But they both seem to be ill prepared for the cost of childcare, (or resentful of paying for it ???)

Depends on what job she is doing doesn't sound like she is doing a Prison Officers job or she would be working shifts if she is doing an admin job money would be a lot less

  7. Washerboy I have a Clubriter too brilliant light very handy but the beam is very tight possibly too tight for running a dog on.Would be easy to lose a rabbit or a fox out of the beam.Have a look at the PLR 500 by Cluson a bit wider beam

  8. Villa sarsaparilla out of a glass bottle now you are talking.Or as you say an ice cream float with cream soda. But the Aldi root beer was good too I bought a dozen bottles when I found out it was sugar free they lasted about 4 days

  9. I have no idea what it is about it either, but have seen the same as you where mild mannered folks get a bit 'handy'. I don't get angry or anything like that, just way too introspective and deep. If i'm in the right mood I can enjoy a few drams, but it's not a drink I would choose to have a couple of in a regular evening.

I absolutely go along with you about Port, I absolutely love the stuff although it turns my tongue purple.

Yes that's me 1 whisky or a bottle of Broon when I have had a few and I want to fight the world and his brother any other spirit or beer and I am fine so I never touch the stuff Bourbon is fine too
  10. What are you planning on buying in the US as there are some good deals around at the moment over here on Schmidt and bender 8 x 56s which are far better than most stuff you will buy in the US
