  1. i can hit a golf ball about 200 yrds before it hits the ground so the idea that an air rifle pellet only goes 120m is ludicrous
  2. i think u'll find it would go up a lot more than 80m!! and are u saying the pellet would travel 120m horizontally if fired at 45 degree angle??!! it would go way further than that - maybe 500m or more
  3. just out of interest. say for a standard 12 ft pound air rifle? :(
  4. this is a very newbie suggestion but are the screws tight at the bottom of the gun? i have a gun that was shooting all over the place until i realised the screws were loose - its not great now but its a lot better!
  5. i put some shims in and it seems to have done the trick
  6. thank you all for help. will
  7. when i fit my scope to my gun and i centre the dials and shoot at a target from about 10 yards, its miles out - like at least a foot or two high and to the right. to get it on target i have to turn the dials until they are basically right at the end of the scale. anyone know why this might be the case? and is there any way to solve the problem? ta
  8. im new myself - sorry if u were hoping for an expert to reply but it seems no-one has! in my very limited experience, like with most things, whats most important is is experience, practise, knowledge etc. an experienced shooter will have a lot more success with a bog-standard gun than a newbie will manage with the best gun in the world. when yr at the bottom of the ladder the first step is just to get a gun, any gun. and then take it from there. u wont be popping rabbits at 30 yards anytime soon with any gun - u need to get experience and u can do that with any gun that isnt a complete piece of ****. maybe in a year or two u might wanna think about getting a better quality gun but until then u wont even know what u want from it
  9. it seems like the obvious way to do it but is it really necessary to do this?
  10. so should i always wash my hands after handling pellets?
  11. well, supposing i was shooting and i had a bite to eat like...erm... a choc bar. in fact, should i eat something (not packaged) with the same hand i've been handling pellets with?
  12. should i be wary of licking my fingers after handling lots of pellets?
  13. i know you should never leave a rifle cocked for a long time, but how long exactly? would, say, half an hour do it any harm?
  14. i've just got into airgunning and have a webley xocet .22 (carbine i think) and a xocet .177. i think they're both standard rather than xs. they seem ok to me but i know they're far from being the best quality break-barrel springers. my question is what actually makes the difference between different quality rifles? is it the precision of the metal-working? or the quality of the metal? and how much difference would there be in terms of accuracy between a standard xocet and a top notch weirhauch? (cant spell it!) also, the silencer on my .22 is fixed on with an allen key screw and i tried to undo the screw today just out of interest but it was as tight as ******* and i couldnt budge it - in fact i bent the allen key in the attempt! can anyone advise? thanks
  15. Cost £11.85, will sell for £8.50 incl. P+P. Its absolutely brand new and completely unused.
  16. ok thanks for that. i think i'll go mad and get a sample pack! it looks v tempting - like a variety box of chocs!!
  17. sorry about the newbie question. its just i got through my initial 500 rws superdome pellets and bought a box of champion stingers from the local sports shop (was all they had). they seemed a bit bigger and uglier than the superdomes and when i put them in the barrel it seemed a bit of a tight fit!! anyway i shot a few off but it didnt seem too clever - there was a lot of barrel reverberation! can anyone advise me if im doing something terribly wrong?! ps its a webley xocet .22 also, how much does wind effect the trajectory of a pellet - will a light breeze make much difference over , say, 25 yards?? ta
  18. its ok - i've just found a discussion about it on another forum which goes into some detail. cheers
  19. oh I see. can u explain exactly what damage this dieseling does? is there any way of treating it? I only ask so I can try to advise my friend! ps - im hoping u are a 'know-it-all'!!
  20. thanks very much for yr advice. One thing about 'dieseling' - a friend of mine has also just bought an air rifle (a BSA something) and after shooting there was a bit of sort of oily vapour coming out of the end of the barrel where u put the pellets in. He said this was supposed to be normal but I notice my gun doesnt do this. Is this 'dieseling'??
