  1. Hey all, Was wondering if any of you know if the Umarex Steel Storm is for sale in the UK? I know it is in North America... it's a co2 powered fully auto bb gun which can fire in single shot, or 6 shot burst. It has a smoothbore barrel, and fires at around 420fps. It looks like it would be a good deal of fun for plinking...and it retails for under $100 in North America. However, I cannot find any info online about it being available to the European market. Anyone heard of this? Thanks!
  2. Are you willing to post this item?
  3. Lose the read dot sight. The hw45 has high quality open sights on it. Who needs a red dot on a pistol anyway? With my hw45 (.177) I can hit tin cans at 30m+ almost every shot. 1.75 inch groupings at 10m is not bad for someone new to this gun. It takes a little while to learn the right hold. Like others have said, keep a loose grip. The fleshy part of the thumb and third finger should do most of the work in holding it up-the other fingers are just along for the ride, so to speak. With some practice, you should be able to cut an inch off that group in no time. I doubt there's anything wrong with your hw45. What cali is it?
  4. Hi again, I've been wondering about the new Alecto. Although it's a bit dear at £165, the specs seem good, and it's kind of nice looking. 3 fp at 1 stroke, 4.5 at 2, and 5-5.5 at 3 strokes! All in a convenient overlever design and decent quality plastic shell! It's apparently got considerable accuracy as well. Has anyone actually SEEN these yet? Anyone HAVE one? Is it a worthy companion to my beloved HW45? Do you think the seals will last? What do you think? IS it worth the squids?
  5. Hi all, Hope the holidays are going well for all. I was wondering what you guys tend to do with your quarry! A couple of days ago I got a nice woody. Just debreasted him, marinated breasts in olive oil, salt, pepper, spring onions, and garlic for a couple of hours, and fried 'em till medium rare. What do you all do with woodies? Today, I got two nice young greys! After cleaning, I soaked them for half hour in salt water (to draw out blood), then in water with a teaspoon of vinegar (to remove the 'wild' flavour). I then marinated with cayenne pepper, salt, black pepper, and garlic. Then dusted them in flour mixed with more cayenne and the deep fried in sunflower oil for some Southern Fried Squirrel! Although I've killed hundreds of greys before, this is the first time I've eaten them (the ones i've killed have all been rubbish-eating city squirrels-these were in the country). I was quite impressed! Any tips or recipies on how you like to prepare common airgun quarry such as woodies or squirrels? Thanks and Merry Christmas!

There are REALLY only two air pistols I know of which are capable of dispatching game. The HW45 and the BSA 240, and the latter sadly no longer in production. New, the hw45 is quite dear, my local shop is selling them for £250. Used, hw45 goes for 140-160 for good condition in box, occasionally a bit cheaper for lucky folk who are willing to wait around a bit. You can get one for 110-120, it'll be a bit dinged up, but the vermin won't care! I THINK the BSA 240 goes for a similar price in good condition-mint ones often go for more. I'm looking for one at the moment. HW45 doesn't get 6 ft/lbs. In .22 it gets about 5, in .177 it gets 4.5. I've had my hw45 for almost a year now, and I love it more every day. It's a bit chunky, some find it front-heavy, but I don't find it a problem. I've killed gray squirrels at 15 yards with single shots to the boiler room, so at point blank, power certainly won't be an issue. Don't buy an SMK.
  7. darn it I just did this as well with my HW45! (blew the 2nd sensor away) So you just send it back and they fix it?
  8. what brand/model/poundage/draw length/ let off/?
  9. Once again, people can drive a golf ball almost 400 yards. If you think an airgun pellet won't travel well over 500 (at an angle obviously) you're dead wrong. Check out chairgun.
  10. Theres a .177 HW35 for sale on the boards right now for £160 I believe. Get a Weihrauch you will never look back! Solid guns, built to last. A tad heavy, but you don't want a light springer anyway. Avoid SMK, avoid Crosman. WEIHRAUCH!!!!
  11. LOL if you guys think an air rifle pellet going 600-800fps at the muzzle will only travel 80-100m up, you're in for a nasty surprise! A slingshot will shoot well over 100m up-at least 150m. Air rifle projectiles travel much faster. I'd be willing to bet that it would go AT LEAST 300m up. I've heard that at a 45 degree angle, .177 pellets WILL travel over a 1/3 of a mile. The main thing slowing a pellet down is the diabolo shape, but even so it will go a heck of alot further than 100m up! As I said before, a roundball will travel FAR. Anyone live on a deserted highrise? Go up to the 30th floor or so and let your mate take potshots at you with a .177 air rifle @12 ft lbs. If you get hit by one of those, it's gonna HURT.
  12. I think 300-500m is about right. I think a domed .177 would go the furthest, surpassed only by a roundball. I think a roundball would go a fair bit furthur, maybe even 700m. What about at a 45 degree angle? Any guesses? I have know idea just wondering.
  13. Don't hollow points have to be moving at least 700-800 fps to reach their full expanding potential?
  14. I have been using H&N silhouettes recently with my .22 hw35. All I can say is they work better than RWS hobby or eley wasps. Haven't tried any others yet with this rifle. Your best bet is to try as many as you can and pick whichever groups the best with your individual gun.
