Nice one enjoy!

Yes cut it now, you can be sure you are not the only one to have noticed it!
I'd leave the bark on for now too

Whalefish is your man. He knows hi stuff see other thread "Recent Knife work"
-
Just about finished my 1st knife. Now for the sheath! Will post pics when done
-
Tried it . Guess what -it worked!!!.
Handle on , butted up to piece of leather and bras bolster. All glued up with epoxy and clamped overnight.
Progress at last! Thanks Whalefish. I'll post a pic when done
-
Doh - Obvious no you say it!!
-
205 x 100mm drill bit is just too bendy - keeps going off centre when drilling the hole for the tang. May be need to use wider bit and rely on the epoxy
-
Loads of vids on how to on You tube
-
Thanks for that - really useful
Looks like I am on the right track, just being a bit ambitious in going for a single piece handle to start with. Still if you don't aim high you won't achieve anything!

Advice please with my first knife.
Am trying to clean out the slot for the hidden tang in a single piece of purpleheart wood. is this a good idea or should I break the handle down into segments for ease of drilling/cleaning out ?

Better camera work and shooting than I can muster; another nice vid to watch.
I think the ratio of positive to negative comments tells its own story.
Looking forward to next season's series

I would go for Lime or American box - both available from Craft Supplies or other outlet, easy to carve and not too prone to splitting. Don't bother with anything too hard like walnut, holly or oak. Never tried willow so can't comment on that
First object I was given to carve at night class was an egg - gets you used to carving curves and not so easy to get symmetrical and even. After that the next was a duck head for a stick. This is basically an egg with a beak on, then eyes carved on the side.
Good luck and but in plenty of plasters - your first few attemptsobjects will no doubt be rather red in colour

He did seem plausible and came across as straight enough guy, had the right paperwork (apparently) etc.
To be honest guys it seems pointless falling out when, in my eyes, Sean is the real culprit. Even allowing for the fact that he might (being really charitable here!)have gone into it in good faith with the farmer's son. He has definitely not behaving in good faith since it fell through.
I spoke with him on two or three occasions since it fell through and got (i) I'm at the hospital with my Dad so can't talk", OK fair enough first time.
Second approach got" I've just knocked a kid over in Chester and am waiting to be interviewed by the police" -Having a bad week
Third call got "I'm coming over to your place of work to meet with a guy in the next day or two". - Hmmm
Since then no response to texts, no answering of phone calls.
Not sure about anyone else but I'm a bit suspicious, not to mention narked

So far I think there are 3 of us still receive our money back - Any others?
-
I think most individuals went into this in good faith, took Sean at face value and coughed up cash. He had formal agreement documents.
On the day I visited, a group of us went on a walk round, received maps of the ground and were told where the boundaries and no shooting areas were - all very plausible.
There was obviously no intention in relation to trespass etc. It seems like someone was offering the rights without authority, whether it was the Farmer's Son as has been suggested, or Sean himself.
Myself and others handed cash over to Sean on this basis, and a number of us have not received a refund. There were four of us on the day I went and most handed over the cash.
Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the ownership of the shooting rights Sean still apparently holds Hundreds of pounds from a number of individuals that he has no right to retain. I certainly can not afford to let him keep it

Brillaint stuff - Inspired me to order some bits an try my own. if its not too embarrasing I'll post a pic
-
How many others are there who have not been refunded?
-
Kes.
PM sent as I am one who has not received a refund.

I've got 2 mates who have the Vitara. One has the VVT the other a Diesel.
Diesel seems to be the preferred one as VVT drinks fuel. Mate with the diesel swears by his. The other swears AT his.

I managed to bring down a crow last thursday, when I paced it out it was 93 yds, 32g No 5 Gamebore.
So how come I can't hit those that sneak up on me until they are 30 yds away before I realise?????

The rings are around where the barrels would butt up against the face when closed, but only on one side

Araldite for the glue (not the 5 minute stuff but the traditional stuff that cures overnight). Hold the antler in place with insulation tape while it cures.
I would go for oil rather than varnish for the stick, linseed would do but stock oil used for shotgun stock works well. Would take several coats, allow to dry and buff up between coats.
Most ironmongers or shoe repair shops will sell the rubber ferrules. Or eBay of course.
Careful though this stick making mullarkey can get addictive

If it wasn't for the penalties both sides gave away ( well Wales and Dylan Hartley) there wouldn't have been too much to talk about apart from Danny Care catching the Welsh asleep. Still, enjoyed it. I am English living in Wales, My son claims to be Welsh but is at Uni in England. Needless to say sympathetic, fatherly texts ensued
