  1. Hello All apologies if this is something that has been covered before, but I have not yet found any information on it. I have been involved in shooting for 20 years, but in all that time it has been target shooting and small vermin such as rat, pigeon and squirrel. All of these vermin are just disposed of as I am not intending to eat any of them. I have been asked to help out with rabbit clearance and am now likely to be dealing with large numbers of the fwuffy bunnies. Once they have been dispatched, do you leave them whole, bleed them, gut them, or even go as far as skinning? Do you give them to friends, butchers, pubs and if so do you give then whole or bled, or gutted? Thanks for you input.
  2. I have been using .22LR for many years initially as a target pistol shooter and then rifle. Only recently have I chosen to use a .22LR instead of an airgun or shotgun for vermin control and so have only just tried subsonic ammunition. The only types I have been able to try so far are Winchester Super X and Eley (both HP). Grouping wise, the Winchester was equivalent to the standard velocity CCI I normally use, and the Eley was giving groups half the size. I have a Ruger 10/22. What stands out to me, when using either of these, is the amount of flaky dirt they produce (like a grey grit). The ever reliable Ruger rotary magazine siezed up and needed to be dismantled and cleaned after about 50 rounds! With standard velocity rifle and pistol ammunition I never experienced anything like this. Is all subsonic this dirty?
  3. I tried Eley and Winchester HP subs in my 10/22 and the Eley groups are half the size! I normally use cci standard velocity and this gives ok groups, the Winchester was equivalent to this, so the Eley is much better in my 10/22.
  4. Steve, I assume Caplock is joking because some of the early Escorts were badly made. I have read that the design / manufacture has been improved and they are now a solid gun, so as long as you bought one new in the last year you should be fine with reliability. After my email on FAC conditions, now I am having a few doubts. I am going to call my FEO today and run it by them to double check. An FAC shotgun is always a grey area as you may use section 2 ammo and the only real difference is magazine capacity. Seems stupid to me as they should simply be allowed on a SGC. Slug ammo, well that is fair enough as that is serious stuff.
  5. I have just bought exactly the same gun. Originally applied for re: practical shotgun, the only 'condition' of use specified on my FAC is the controlled use of slug ammunition. Apart from that, no other conditions are applied. According to the 'home office guidence for police 2002' document there is an automatic allowance to use an FAC shotgun for clay shooting, so unless you have a specific restriction or an 'ONLY for vermin control' you should be fine. I just christened mine with a couple of rounds of skeet.
  6. Dear All I have been looking for a local club to join instead of just using the commercial ground near me. After a few visits, I do have a preferred choice, but for me it has one major flaw. After every shoot, the club members have to pick up the broken clays, or at least all bits larger than 1.5cm. Before I make a decision I had a couple of questions: Does anyone else know of or belong to a club where the members must pick up the broken clays? If so I was trying to think of a way to speed up the process, has anyone tried using a leaf blower in vacuum mode to collect the bits of broken clay?
