  1. Thanks for the link. But I managed to have a lend of my Mate's book, 'The Gun 1st Ed by WW Greener - and I have matched the proofs. It is a Birmignham proofed gun and bears black powder proofs. It has the initials 'J P' stamped under the barrels (in two locations). There are also proofs on the breech plate. The serial number is 7608 (on trigger guard and under the barrels). I have had it looked at by a gunsmith and he said it is well made. This gun has been inspected by several other people in the gun trade and all have positive comments on the gun. Thanks to the members that have prompted me to research a bit more into the origin of the gun. Rob.
  2. There are 4 proofs on the gun. Sodit, could you tell me what will a re-proof Nitro cypher or stamp look like please? Rob.
  3. I am not sure. I don't know much about the specifics of the history of this type of gun. Sorry.
  4. Just checked the barrels. Quite clean, no pitting or marks. ********************* THIS GUN HAS BEEN SOLD ***************************
  5. ******** SOLD ****************************** SOLD ************************ Hill & Son of Folkstone 12g hammer gun - single barrel shot gun made early 1870s. This is an early breech loading single barrel. Difficult to find an early single like this. Many early singles are normally tired or worn with a large proportion being scrapped over the last several decades. This one is excellent and locks up tight and the action is as crisp as a pack of walkers! Proofing good - re-checked last year (only put 20 shots through it since). Damascus - long 33" barrel, nice clean walnut stock, re-cheqeuering touched up a few years ago. Retains original finish, nice engraving with 'Hill & Son of Folkstone' on lock. Original steel butt plate (stock length untouched). Barrel bore - no pitting and as clean as a cats whisker! May SWAP or P-EX for antique (Article 58) pistol or musket / long gun OR for SALE - £295. I know some modern singles can be as cheap as chips. But an old single like this, is quite rare and collectible. Thanks for reading, Rob. SGC Rules apply, F2F or RFD. THIS GUN HAS BEEN SOLD
  6. ***************************** SOLD SOLD ************************ Belgian / French sxs folder, .410 hammer gun. Liege proofs, folds in the 'poachers' style, made early 1900s. Blued 28" barrels, 2.5" magnum chambers, walnut stock. Swan neck lever opens barrels and secondary button folds stock. Gun retains original finish, in very good condition! Stock full length, not cut down and has original steel butt plate. Bores in good condition, quite clean with no pitting. I can see a reflection down em'. Another member has pointed out that the stock has been dowelled. It is a solid job and shoots fine. Will SWAP or P-EX for antique (Article 58 - obsolete cal) pistol or musket / long gun. Or FOR SALE - £150. ******************************* SOLD ******************************
  7. FOR SWAP OR SALE. English sxs 12g hammer gun, made late 1860s. Detailed twist on Damascus barrels, polished walnut stock, rotary underlever action. 30" barrels, 2.5" chambers, proofing re-checked and barrel walls very thick. Serial number on the trigger guard. There is no maker's name on the locks. But 'J P' is stamped under the barrels (in two locations), four sets of Birmingham black powder proof marks on the barrels and breech. Serial number stamped on barrels and engraved on trigger guard. Mechanism is crisp and action locks up tight. Bores are clean - no pitting. I can see a refelection down em'. Will SWAP or P-EX for antique (Article 58) pistol or musket / long gun) or for SALE - £495. Thanks for reading. SGC Rules apply, F2F or RFD.
  8. If all fails (I will state the obvious) take it to a good gunsmith or experienced fitter / toolmaker.
