  1. Out walking the dog I came across a young Tawny Owl. I thought about "rescuing it" as it was all alone and to young to be out of the nest.... I thought better of it and went home and looked young Tawny owls up on line. It turns out they leave the nest before they can fly at only a few weeks old. They stay near the nest and the parents still feed them. They are one of the most common owls handed to rescue centres as the good willing public believe they are abandoned. Well, glad that I didn't "rescue" the owl I went back a few days later and took this picture. Whilst I was there I spotted not only another young chick but also an adult Tawny perched up in another tree. Picture taken I moved put the way. Over the last few weeks I have been lucky enough to see the adults flying around and listen to the two young owls calling. I must say the Tawny Owl call isnt the nice'st of calls!!!
  2. A small cartridge/ammo belt pouch. There are two belt loops on the back and a metal ring. This is a heavy duty leather double pouch. Its a French Military issue and quite old. The military stopped using black leather for general issue to save money about 1914 so this pouch is likely to be over 80 years old. £25 posted.
  3. Hi Paddy

I would go to £400. I would be happy to go to £385 if it doesn't sell in a weeks time but I think its a very good price for everything.

    Thanks, Phil

  4. Okay, price drop! £65 posted
  5. The shwastika is a very old symbol and has been linked to christians, buddhists, mayans, etc. Its a worldwide symbol that some view as religous others take to be a sun symbol. Pottery has been found with it on dating back to 2300-2600 B.C, it has also been found on bronze age items. The metal could be tested to give a true date. Interesting item and maybe lucky for the new owner. It would be great to hear of the outcome if the item gets checked out!
  6. The barrels dont have chokes. Feel free to come see the gun or I can come show you it tomorrow as I'm going past Newbury at about 5.30pm

  8. Thanks so far for the messages. Where I live is a lovely area but unless you know the farmer there is very little chance of getting any shooting. Being so rural any emergency assistance would take far longer than ten minutes to reach us. If your heart went into V.F then you would be dead by the time help arrived. Its a nasty fact but P.A.D's (public access defibrilators) are going to be your best chance of surviving. Our community scheme is lucky to have a local farmer on board who has kindly given permission for us to do this. Thankyou all for looking and everyone that books a day!
  9. Hi All This is quite a rare chance to get some pigeon shooting in a lovely part of Wiltshire. It will be a days shooting with myself keeping you company. There will be several dates from the end of July available (mostly Saturdays). It will be either 8am - 4pm or 10am - 6pm. There will probably be a bit of a walk into some of the area's but nothing major. There is a fee of £65 for the whole day. Every penny of this money will go to our local community public access defibrilator scheme. We are currently raising funds to install a defibrillator in each of the five hamlets that make up the area in which I live. These are very important in saving lives, especially out in rural area's. Please PM me if you would be intrested in this. This could also be open to someone who is wanting to try out pigeon shooting. I will need to see some insurance (BASC, etc) :(

    Soldiers

Its strange how people lie about being or having done these things. I have two goods friends who were both in the Royal Marines in the second invasion of Iraq. One left due to a back injury, the other left but went into private security. Neither boast or talk to much about being a marine, they do keep the pride of being a marine though. The thing that gets me is one of their friends and an occasional drinking partner of mine is in the special forces, I only found this out the other day as I knew he was in the forces but as he never once really talked about anything army related or what he was upto (apart from going away alot). His girlfriend is a great girl but she has never mentioned anything before, discrettion is they key I guess. I think its the people who talk about it you need to think twice about. Good job and good luck to all our boys out and about around the world.
  17. What do you think of me running next year? 1/ I will replace the current leg tag system. Rather than setting off an alarm when you are late home or outside of the set area it will set off a small charge that will effectively remove your foot. The tag will then be placed on your other foot. Two strikes and you wont be running away again.......EVER 2/Any person wearing their trousers/jeans/jog bottoms/etc so low that all you can see is their **** or boxers shall have their trousers/jeans/jog bottoms removed as they must be to big. Problem solved! 3/ Adopting the India view of an eye for an eye, any person found guilty of beating/murdering/injuring a child or baby shall recieve the same treatment. 4/ An intuder or burglar is NOT intitled to any rights regardless of any injuries they may recieve as they should not have been there in the first place. Some strong views to some people but why is it that joe public is the one that is more likely to be prosecuted than the person who is in the wrong.
