  1. Best thing is a small gate net a couple of days in advance clear a path in the bottom of the hedge for the net to go say ever 10 yards.

It is very rare for rabbits to run in the open from hedgerow burrows.

Always down the hedge I too have given up with purse net I only use them on the downs.

I have one area where they have a large pond with reeds I circle the pond with two 150 yard longnets then beat and flush with the dogs best bag was 32 real fun watching the dogs hunt.

    Regards

  2. I feel for you steve but IMO you will not miss to much the famers son shoots the birds .

They walk the birds off 3 times a day all this a will do is scare the birds s*^&tless and make them pretty unshootable.

I keep telling farmer if they want to control pigeons you have got to have one maybe two regular shooters .

I have seen farms that have every shooter in area allowed to shoot still have massive pigeon problem.

All that happens is the birds become shy if distruped to much and become nearly unshootable.

So fear not I dont think you will miss too much.

  3. Started early today first light the birds sat in the large woods a couple of clicks away for the first half hour.

Then started to move in large flocks tracking across in perhaps 50s the sport was fast in the first two hours knocked over approx 100 .

Eased off and then middayish started again finnished with 231 and two crows .

Bring on the gales for latter in the week I think it would have been double with a breeze.

    Regards

  4. Ferretting a funny game there is no rigid answer to any questions, sure making a alot of noise setting up does sometimes keep them from bolting ,but in my time I have netted rabbits while setting the nets crashing about in thick brambles.

The worst time is when you find a qiute place and rabbits are use to peace and quiet .

My best ferretting has always been in roadside banks where the rabbits are use to noise so you setting nets talkng etc dont effect them.

But be very careful that the buries dont go under the road path or worst still to the other side though drains etc.

But be patient trust your ferrets it will happen with time .

    Regards
