  1. The shotguns and pigeon shooting at the game fair was great but the Airgun section was rubbish with many companys missing. There was certainly a lot of decoying products available and endless amounts of guns. Hope the Midland game fair is better on the airgun front
  2. Thanks again for your excellent help I was using the M 3 star choke the other day and found it was really powerfull on the decoying birds and found long distance shots much harder to hit anything, I was with a local expert on pigeons, and he thought the gun was fully choked it was so devastating on the birds. Maybe I should give the 1/4 a go so as to increase my likelihood of hitting at longer ranges.
  3. Thanks for all the replies, I am beginning to see how it works but still a little confused, all my chokes have the letters PB and SP on them and their differences are as follows Letter F and one star Letter 1M and 2 stars Letter M and 3 stars Letter 1C and 4 stars Letters CL with C**** (4stars closer together) can anyone help and recomend which I use in what weather conditions and what each one is. Thanks very much
  4. I am not sure about my 391 chokes, up till now I have not reallyneeded to change as I have been out in pretty much the same weather conditions, I know what they are, but cannot determine the spread. I am not sure how you tell which ones which, full, 1/2 etc and which ones are the smaller spread etc. I am not sure about the star indication or the letters on each of the tubes what do they determine? Thanks
  5. There are some sitty trees around the edge of the field but the particular part is down a hill and my rotor device will barely be seen. I intend to position my magnet on the rise of the hill and there is a thicker hedge row there. My previous position was well hidden but the pigeons were not keen to land. The idea of setting up in the middle of the field is a great idea and the farmer is so keen for the pigeons to be shot I dought he would mind. However has anyone ever tried this and what are the hiding techniques, do you just sit on a small stall with your head just above the crop, obviously with a veil on. Would my magnet be usefull. This particular field is a pigeon shooters nightmare yet there are hundreds of pigeons attacking it daily but always in the wrong place.
  6. I have access to a 72 acre pea field and am having trouble decoying the birds. The problem is when I arrive and shoot a couple early on they then settle on the other half of the field. Is the only way about stopping this by having extra guns and gas gane etc any advice will be appreciated. Do you have any techniques for decoying on peas that may be usefull. The most frustrating thing is that the pigeons are feeding directly in the middle with no cover for a hide and although I know I should go where the pigeons are flying they seem to appear from all directions and identifying the flight line is tricky!!!! I shot 18 the other day but there are plenty more, its just getting them to prefere to land where I set up.
  7. neil I have yet to use it, but I should get around 50 shots
  8. My gun will be at 30ftlbs and i have also been recomended Bisley Mags or Barracuda Match
  9. Can anyone recomend any pellets if there are any FAC users of rapid MK1's out there. I am looking for the most consistent pellet, I know it is up to my skill to find the best for me, but I would be interested if there are any opinions. Thanks
  10. Thanks Ernyha Had a great day yesterday, did not amount to a large bag but certainly kept the pigeons off the peas for a while. The cartridges worked well and there were no faults, I am very pleased with my gun and its performance. Look foreward to using it again soon
  11. Had a great days clay pigeon shooting today and am possibly going pigeon shooting in the next couple of days. But am not sure about cartridge type for the AL391. The manual recomends 2 3/4 inch to 4 inch chambers but I have a load of 2 1/2 inch cartridges. Someone told me that these are suitable in a larger chambered gun such as the 391 but, some cartridges work others don't. Does anyone else use 2 1/2 inch chambered cartridges in the 391 and is it OK to do so. thanks Tony

    Rats

Having had the chance to shoot rats in a barn that had the game feed left out by the gamekeeper, I would never dream of attracting rats. The number of rats that this barn contained was scary. They would run all around you inbetween you and your gun light. I was shooting them at all angles even in the guttering above my head. From this I would say that a good source of bait is a regular supply of mixed cereals. Question? Do rats eat dead rats?
  13. neil, all I can say is that I have noticed a slight noise but not very sufficient especially considering the noise of the shot. I think the action is what make thems so attractive, they are ideal in a pigeon shooting situation and can be used repeatedly. One thing that always makes me smile is the ability for the device to work so well and so smoothly, its a great piece of design work, cleaning is not a set back in my opinion especially after a good day as far as Benelli's go it was certainly another option I considered
  14. and he only shoots 3000 a year how many do you all shoot on average?
  15. Very happy with my new gun (AL391) I fired it the first opportunity available and brought down a pigeon with it first shot (excellent) I enjoy the smooth cycling of the gun and it is very satisfying, cleaning it is not as bad as i thought however after several shots I can see it being tricky with all the extra cleaning, but hey, does not bother me in the slightest. I found an excellent way of gaining shooting. By leaving all my gear around the house (not the gun of course) but my decoys etc in poistion so that when anyone enters the house they immediately see it. A surveyor came the other day and saw the equipment and has invited me shooting, it is especially usefull as I am struggling to find shooting myself.
  16. I have seen them in the shops and looked at them very good looking scopes and the mil-dot is a plus, the shop keeper certainly credited them and i would have to agree

    Magpies

Peg a dead rabbit to the ground with a net over the top it keeps them on the ground for longer
  18. Thanks for all the info I will have to ensure I know what cartridges to use so they don't fault. There certainly looks to be a lot of areas to be cleaned after use. Any other opinions on the gun would be good Thanks Tony
  19. Just brought the AL391 in exchange with one of my Air Rifles, great looking gun and very light, ideal for pigeons Does anyone have any advice on favoured cartridges for pigeons and any cartridges that are not advisable with this gun? Any other comments also welcome? Thanks TONY
  20. What guns do you prefer for pigeon shooting? Semi Auto/ Over and Under/ Side by Side? What Model? What Gauge?
  21. Nice guns ernyha, I hope that the beretta's shoot as well as they look. One thing that does look good are the cammo dipped berettas. Do they dip them in advantage timber or realtree hardwoods green patern, or would I have to resort to dipping them at Hydrographics. Does the 301 look similar to the Al391?
  22. Please can you give me any information on this gun in terms of reliability, consistency etc etc What are Beretta semi autos like for pigeon shooting?

    Rook help

Try putting some decoys lofted into the trees as they can see them from far away. Putting pigeon decoys on the ground also helps I find and also baiting is very usefull on pastures.
  24. I was using my AA s410 .22 not my FAC on the rats and the barn had open doors out into a field so my pellets would cause little damage and ricochet outside.
  25. I have got my FAC and just had my BSA Superten .22 Power uprated to 30flbs and a real thrill to shoot with. I also have done my first ever proper rat control job,I was trembling with these ft long rats feeding off game feed left out (can't think why) with rats never shot at before and not very shy they came right up to me and I zapped them with my AA s410. They had little chance with my confidence on accuracy. Whenever I took the light off the barn all I could hear was the chilling sound of rustling, screaching and scurrying. I got 17 in ten minutes. but much prefer an evening stalking Rabbits
