  1. fifty two years ago I walked into my local RUC station as a 17 yr old requested a shotgun liscence, handed over my 10 shillings after giving info and received a nice shiny liscence.

straight to the gunshot and twenty minutes later walked out with a new Aya Cosmos single barrel 12 guage and a free belt and a box of eley alphamax. No gunslip as we provided we broke gun did not need a gunslip.

An hour later I was in an old quarry shooting tin cans.

Ive managed in the 52 yrs shooting not to have shot anybody.

Ive had clay target lesson from qualified instructors and as of yet to come across one who showed me how to remove gun from slip properly return gun to slip properly, I see supposedly experienced guns returning gun to slip closed and open same way.,ask how long shooting, tell me no such thing as a dangerous gun only dangerous humans.

I could go on n on the point being we go to gunshop as a complete novice with SGC in hand and can buy a gun ,walk out the door and go shooting without any queries.

Theres no difference in Great Britain.

  2. I was shooting flighting duck last night using mirage trap loads in high velocity steel no 7s. Described on shell as 28 gram no 7s (2.5mm).

All seven duck 5 mallard, 2 teal were stone dead before hitting the pond. Both barrels had 5/8 chokes and no bird was overshot.

I hasten to add all within 30 yds.

I also use these same shells for all of my decoyed pigeon.

I know a lot wont agree but it works for me.

  3. State Pension, the system is a joke. I started serving my time as a joiner at 15 years old. worked all of my journeyman years self employed.was unemployed in dribs n drabs for approximately 12 months of my working years.Ive earned good money and had a good life style. Ive paid into a private pension scheme and was shafted in relation to what I was told and promised. Retired at 60 and lived the life. state pension at 65, Me £62.oo, her indoors £55.oo. a ******* joke all because I was selfemployed paying a small stamp but big taxes.

A friend told me if had been in continous unemployment we would have been entitled to a full pension.

  4. I have a friend who sits in the hide with me about 3 times a year. He has a bad habit of pulling the top of net down and drawing the poles together.

I use a yard brush shaft to do as described, its stopped him pulling net and ensures he stands to take a shot.

since hes learned to stand for shot he does not run out of swing the same and his kill ratio has improved.

  5. as Jdog suggessted move to edge of canopy. place poles lower with an additional pole threaded through net to form a solid top rope.

I think pinewood shooting supplies sell something like this.

Alternately keep poles lower ans use two pegs and guy rope to keep net taught..

Loads of shooters stand all the time decoying and keep the net at nipple level but no castleations.

  6. North Ayrshire Shooting ground/ Continental shooting Supplies were the sole distributor for clever mirage but have not taken on again this year. They have a good stock of mirage in shop.

I think Garlands have taken over.

Seemingly the new manager decided NASG was not buying enough. Reportly importing 24 million last year was not enough so Tom told them to do one. They are bringing new lot soon.

    Third party tale so.

  7. Have installed windows 10 n my desktop. Computer gone totally blank.Neither my son r daughter could get a response.

Took laptop to local pc doctor. £80.00 later no joy.

Phoned Hewlett Packard. Yes we can fix.Windows 10 has **** it up. wrap it up for collection.£150.00 please.

Would have been better with new pc.

3 weeks later not returned yet.

cookff013, You stated anyone using a trap load for pigeons is doing so for cost reasons. Ive shot registered clays using hull Sovereigns in lead and used he same load for pigeons.Check out the cost of any top trap load and you will see i dont use trap loads as a cost saving exercise.

Yes on the steel trap loads they are 160.00 a thousand.

I shoot approximately seven thousand cartridges at pigeons each year so compareed to the OP at 400 per housand yes im on a cos saving exercise.

In my opinion nobody in ther e right mind would shoot 400 per k cartridges at pigeons.

As for old george boy he is one of a small percentage of shooters capable of shooting anything out to 70 yards.

    Each to their own.

  9. The biggest percentage of decoyed pigeons are shot within 35 yards. Any 28 gram trap load is plenty.

There are loads more 50 yard cartridges that 50 yard pigeon shooters.

I exclusively used trap loads in lead for about 14 yrs and have changed to 28 and 24 gram no 7s in steel about five yrs ago.

According to my diary there is no difference in my yearly bags.

In fact ive shoot duck flighting to ponds with both 28 and 24 gram steel.(Mallard and Teal).
