And you think a society where we can trust a 11 year old child to make the correct decision on when to use a firearm to protect themselves or family etc would be a better one
YES.
-
they already have them and most likely will long after we are stopped from owning.if you feel that it is a good thing to have gunfights on the streets why not try for residency of the good ol usa.or even Russia as they seem to have gun laws more to some peoples liking.atb
Typical emotional straw-man argument. Because "some peoples liking" is for more liberal gun laws, that somehow equates to thinking gunfights on the streets is a good idea. That's like saying because I drink a pint or two then drink driving is a good idea too.
Yes, in the good ol' USA there are problems with the wrong people having firearms and using them unjustifiably. We see those stories in the headlines all the time. What's not in the headlines are the many, many, incidents where firearms (in the ordinary public's hands) have been used wisely and protected life, limb and property. The police cannot be everywhere at once.
Those stories are NEVER widely reported here - or in the US for that matter. See below for some examples. Gun fights notwithstanding - More good comes from wide firearm ownership than bad.
In reality - Guns are a fact of life and they are not going away. Illegally or legally.
I guess we can agree to disagree.

If this country ever gets to the stage where we need to carry concealed weapons for self defence that will be the day we need to ban guns altogether.
Yep!! So only the lawless bad guys have guns.

I live in North Yorkshire.
Last July my FAC was up for renewal and I put in for a Sec 1 Shotgun - good reason being vermin control. Short or long range not even brought up.
Long story short - it was approved and I now own a Benelli Supernova that holds way more than two in the tube.
Always double check "what you've been told" as you did.

So Midway UK are just making a little profit Aye!!!
I wonder what Midway UK's overhead costs are compared to Midway USA???
Is it Midway being greedy and charging a lot because then can - or are there higher labor rates, fees, and taxes, or other inefficiencies in the UK that add an exorbitant amount to their operating costs?
Remember, all corporate taxes - in the end - are paid by the customers who buy the products or services produced by that corporation.
In the seventeenth century, Sir William Petty, a political economist and statistician, said: "a tax on the production and sale of commodities would eventually be shifted by producers to consumers, who would pay it in the form of higher prices".
Any cost (tax is a cost) to a corporation will eventually be reflected (and recovered) in the price of the product that corporation or business produces and then sells [to you].
Corporate taxes are nothing more than a stealth tax on you. But that's okay as someone has to pay of for the NHS, Police, Fire Service, loafers in the dole, and the rest of the social benefits made available by the Government.
Who would thought Midway UK's prices would lead to a thread like this?

If ever shooting at dusk or first light - get at least a 50mm objective lens. You can never go wrong with too much light reaching your eyeball. Unless you aim at the sun of course.

I caught part of a programme on TV last night about teen imprisonment in America, three lads mid teens broke into a house thinking it was empty, it wasn't and one was shot and killed by the home owner and one wounded, in court the boys were found guilty of murder and sentenced to fifty five years, the home owner wasn't prosecuted, this is the law in that state, it concerned me having a teenage son and putting him in the position of one the stupid boys being lead etc by older boys not being released until he was 70yrs old, any thoughts, right or wrong
As a yank - I think it's a stupid law.
In that State (Indiana I think) if you commit a crime and someone is killed during that crime - even if you did not kill the person - you are held responsible for that death. The logic is: If you did not commit the lesser crime, the death would not have happened. Sounds good in theory - but it has unintended consequences.
That kid in the story is for sure stupid and a thug. He deserves punishment for what he did, but not life in prison for the homeowner killing his partner in crime. And "Life" is this case means LIFE. Going in a teenager, and coming out at 70 - is indeed life.
It was good and right that the homeowner was not charged. In most U.S. States - the right to defend yourself, others, and property with lethal force still applies. As it should - the cops can't be everywhere. And contrary to most peoples thinking, the Police are not a protection service for each and every citizen.

Just saw this Gun Trader Post for a taurus long barrel revolver 45 acp (http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/291816-taurus-long-barrel-revolver-45-acp)
Anyone have an opinion on what Good Reason one may use to have such a firearm placed on a FAC slot?
What about for .22 long barrel pistol?

What did you go with in the end mate
Well, I went with the garden sticks - two - held to gather with a loop of bungee cord.
They seem stout, cost 9 quid with the cord, and they seem to do the job.
If I were not the type to be so tough on my kit, I would have went with trigger sticks.
Thanks again for everyone's thoughts and opinions.

65mm shells?
Yes: HB Pigeon 32g with 6 shot
I`m sure you`ve already done this, but, if the cartridge appears to be sticking in the chamber, did you degrease the inside of the barrel and the other relevent moving parts associated with the bolt mechanism?
Hope you get it fixed. Otherwise they`re good guns.
Short answer is NO; I'll get to it this evening

A few questions for those who may know.
After much deliberation on which FAC pump shotgun to buy for them Pigeons and other pests on the farm - I purchased a brand new Benelli Super Nova Pump last week.
Last night I took it out for the first time. The good news is my first shot and second shot was a hit, felling a wood pigeon and a jackdaw. Bad news is it jammed each time. First time the slide came back only about an inch. The rest of the shell seemed to be stuck in the chamber. Had to take the barrel off to remove the shell.
On the second shot the empty shell fell down - falling on top - of the new shell coming up. Obviously it jammed as the slide moved forward with the empty shell on top of the new shell. It appears the fired shell is not gripped tightly enough, and falls downward before hitting the ejector bar. I cycled the gun to empty it, and each shell fell downward - instead of - ejecting to the right and out.
So my questions are:
1) Has anyone any experience with this kind of malfunction?
2) Is there something I'm missing or should have done before the first shot? I read the manual. Besides putting on the barrel, there were no other assembly instructions.
3) As this is the first new gun I've purchased that has a problem out of the box - what's the normal procedure? Does it go back to the dealer? Or am I going to have to deal with the GMK warranty folks?
I'm going to ring the dealer today, but if any one has any insight or thoughts, I'm all ears.

Thanks for all your tips and recommendations.

As I was closing up the back of my pick-up, my sticks got caught between the bed and the gate. They now have a 60 degree bend in them.
As I was not to pleased with them anyway I'm not too bothered.
But as I'm now in the market for new sticks - what would you recommend?
Thanks,...

Any Pigeon Watchers fish from the shore in North Yorkshire?
If so some questions:
Is a license required? (I've googled around and don't think so - but want to be sure)
What type of kit would you recommend?
Do you prefer pier, beach, or rocks?
Where would you recommend to go with two small boys?
What kind of fish may be caught from the shore?
Any limits of restrictions that I need to know about?
Guess that's it,...
Thanks for any input,....

Once again it's those Damn Yanks increasing tensions through out the world!! If it weren't for those yanks; Al-Gaeda, Putin, Iran, Boko Haram would be regular Mother Teresa's spreading cheer, hope, love and good will to the world. Ohh, I forgot - if the United States did not exist - neither would all the worlds problems.
The simple minded ignorance of some people's world view is truly a sad amazement.
