i love shooting/beating and being out in the country as ive been doing so from the age of 4.Pigeons are my number 1 sport but really started getting into crow decoying/calling.

    My other passion/sport is boxing
  1. I do a lot of shooting over lettuce at this time of year and over summer pal and to be honest it's just like every other way of shooting pigeon (hit and miss) but biggest bag on lettuce is 58 pigeons were as my biggest ever bad is 97 which was this year roost/flight line shooting. As long as your not shooting them sat (which I never have) or close to landing there's no problem or so my farmer tells me.
  2. Hi That's just what I asked them pal to which the reply was "the dog has had this illness since birth so that is classes it as pre existing illness! The insurer must of got this information from might vet as I didn't tell them Hi I have had the policy since she was a pup pal she came with for week free insurance then when that ended I changed insurers. It only really became a problem about a month ago or so. I have asked the insurer to which the reply was (as above) The thing is I don't think I have the time to go down the road of a legal battle to get the insurer to pay and unfortunately I don't have the money to pay for the op then take the insurer to court. Looking on the internet I am not the only one who has had this problem.
  3. My 20 month old springer over the last few weeks has slowly started to drink more water to the point I will fill the bowl full of water and she will almost drink it all of it at once (other than that she is fine and still as mad has a hatter) So I took her to the vets. After tests and ultra sound the vet has told me she has most likely got a shunt (liver problem). So if this is the case she will need a scan to see if the shunt is internal or external at a cost of £800 then depending on which shunt it s the operation is from £3000 to £5000. The vet did say that my dog has had this from birth and will of formed when she was inside her mum!! Insurance So I got on the phone to the insurance explained what was going on to which couple of phone calls later I got told that its classed as a "pre existing condition" there for my dog isn't covered for the treatment! So really what is the point of having insurance! Its not the 1st time I have heard of insurances getting out of paying. If the last lot of test come back saying it is 100% a shunt then im going to have to make the hardest decision of my life as I cant possibly afford that can of money!
  4. It would of been if the crows had shown up la. Strange day all round but that's shooting for you It would of been if the crows had shown up la. Strange day all round but that's shooting for you
  5. Sure does boy and shows the weather has a lot to play on it. Il try get you a good day over the summer pal
  6. My advise to you pal would be make sure your equipped to shoot a good amount but don't go thinking every time you go out you will get a big bag, pigeon shooting just doesn't work like that. But the main thing enjoy it and if 1 day you get 1 pigeon just think the next time you could get 100,but being out with the gun and dog is better than stuck in the house
  7. its something I normally always do my dad use to take the micky saying what do you need all them for you wont shoot all them in the 4 Saturdays. but the 1 time I didn't take the 240 I normally do I needed them! so yep I will always make sure I have them now. Ps that is some shooting you did pal
  8. From someone who has there 1st dog/springer I wound listen to the advise about reading the books/dvds why you have the time before the pup arrives also get everything in place ie bed/run don't just think about the 1st 6months of the pups life think about all of its life. and especially bond with the dog get its trust and take your time with it its better to take 3 years to get the dog how you want it and it be set in the right ways than to rush things and end up keep ironing out problems. the reason I say this is its lessons I have learnt the hard way. My girlfriend brought my pup home with out me knowing I was getting one and I thought great and it was the best thing ever but now I wish I had time to prepare for its arrival reading up on training watching dvds asking for advise getting its run ready(as this is where your planning it to spend most of its time) making sure I was ready 100% for the dog.Like you I have never had a gun dog before this one. unfortunately for me she 21months old now so with my little know how its going to be extremely hard to get her to the standard I know she can get to but its not her fault its mine. Hope all works out for you and if you do your home ect im sure you will get there Ps its not easy at all the lads on here who are far far more experience will tell you that and will help you
  9. If your pointing the gun in the right place then it wont make a difference on pigeon what size load your using. I'm guessing with you shooting 6s all the time then changing to 7.5s you were what I call **** ending them due to change of cartridge. But its up to the individual what they like to shoot with at the end of the day.
  10. That's what makes pigeon shooting to me the best sport you just never know. If you wanted to shoot 20 pheasants you could pay the money and go shoot them. On Saturday I did not expect to shoot 20 let alone the amount I did but in the past I've had the keeper ring me and say there's 1000s about but leave the wood with 5 so goes to show how unpredictable pigeon shooting. All I can say is stick at it and your time will come strangford
  11. ThanksI know the amount I shot was a good day and when we go out it's not all about the size of the bag but on Saturday I was totally gutted not to make 100 pigeons so I know how you felt. But now looking back at the day it really was my best day iv had for more reasons than just the size of the bag. Makes all them days where iv been out for 5 hours or more and come out of the wood not even fired the gun
  12. That is a outstanding days decoying well done.I haven't got over 50 decoying there just doesn't seem to be the numbers like that in summer. where I shoot is mainly lettuce that I decoy over. Thanks I've got to admit simon it wasn't what I had planned for but I'm not complaining haha.
  13. Looks like you learn something new every day. As you will of read in my post I only took 3 and a half boxes of cartridges and thought I would be lucky to shoot a box after the week before me and royboy off here only shot 15 in the same wood. It really was one of those days where everything goes well I'm not sure about if you have ever had a day when what ever you shoot at you seem to kill. Thanks
  14. Really? I must admit that the highest bag I have had before that was 89 around 6years ago but back then in February everyone was getting on average 50 birds each Saturday. The 1st Saturday in feb this year a bloke in awood a mile away from where I shoot shot over 400 but they started 1st light till dark. Sometimes when the wind is blowing in the right direction I can hear them shooting away all day but I only leave the wood with 10/15 and don't see many I find that strange being so close to them the birds never seem to travel my way.
  15. Cheers lads it's a day i will never forget. I honestly thought a red letter day was 100 pigeons.
